[Kriya's POV]
The next evening, Rose called. “Hey... I think I’m lost. I’m in front of the address you gave but this seems to be some sort of mansion.” She was coming over earlier than the rest as her brother had work and he was her only ride to getting here.
I burst out laughing as I got up from the couch lowering the TV volume and opened the door. Stepping out, I waved at the car. Rose got out and stared at me. Her jaws dropped as she took in the view in front of her. Still not recovering from the shock, Rose came out and her brother drove away. We exchanged quick hugs. “You guys seriously live here?” She asked to make sure.
Sonia, who came up next to me, looked and tried not to laugh. We nodded. It wasn’t new to us. Whoever came to our house reacted similarly. Rose’s jaw dropped. Again. “Dear, it’ll be better for you if you believe it as fast as possible.”
She brushed her hand aside and said walking in, “Seriously yaar, this is a huge house! No, scratch that. It’s like a freaking palace!”
Sonia followed. “Yea? Well, it’s Kriya’s.”
I stood there. I gave a forced smile and closed the door. As I walked in the living room, Nathan came running down the stairs and circled me. “Kriya, save me!” He hid behind me as Karan trotted down as well. Rose stood there too surprised to react and watched the ‘situation’ in front of her. Sonia gave her an apologizing look for the boys’ behavior.
When I had enough of them turning me around like a toy, I yelled, “Enough!” Both of them froze as I continued, “Didn’t I tell you to behave? How old are you both huh? I really need to tell this to you both? Upstairs, now!” I ordered. “And not a word. Bye!” With that, the boys disappeared just as fast as they had appeared. Taking a deep breath, I turned to Rose. “Uh… Sorry about that. They were Nathan and Karan.”
Rose smiled and said, “’t’s fine.” Sonia started to announce all that she had planned for the night.
I remembered the time Rey had said the same thing Rose had. I couldn’t forget that day ever in my life.
It was a normal day and I was packing my bag to leave. The group had accepted me well and there were no problems between anyone anymore. We were rehearsing hard for the footloose competition. We had several outings together and all was well. We had just given the semester exams and were now free of tension for quite some time.
Even Rey and I had become good friends and had shared a few moments that are not normal for ‘just friends.’ Rey walked up to me as I was drinking out of his bottle and asked, “Hey, going home already?”
I looked at him as if he were crazy. Already! She replied, “What do you mean by ‘already’? If you realize, it’s really late and if I don’t go home now, mom will get worried.”
“Oh! Then let me drop you. You’ll reach faster than walking home. Cars are faster you know.” I walked away from him looking here and there to find an excuse. I can’t let him see where I live. Rey disturbed my process of thinking as he walked up to me. “What happened? Let’s go?”
I fumbled, “Rey… you don’t have to bother. I’ll go. It’s not far and I’m used to walking.” I grabbed my bag in hurry and in hope that I will escape before he stops me. But he was fast.
He stopped me by pulling me back holding my elbow and repeated, “I’m telling you. It’ll be faster. And I’m not going to eat you alive if you sit in my car.”
I mumbled under my breath, “Rey, why don’t you understand!”
Rey asked, “What?”
