"Everyone, this is Jung Ara. She is a new student and one of your classmates so treat her with as much respect as possible," The principle then left the room, leaving me to look over the groups of kids my age and a teacher.
"Oh, fuck," I whispered under my breath as everyone stared at me as I walked slowly to my seat.
They all watched me with such intensity, I felt as if my body was shrinking under their gazes by the second.
I scanned the room, hoping to find a friendly face. It didn't take long before my eyes landed on a familiar pair of dark-brown orbs.
It was him...
He was looking at me.
His eyes followed my every movement as I went to sit down. It didn't matter where I was or who was watching me, that boy's eyes were drawing me in.
And only after a long lesson was I able to finally look at him again.
Several people came up to me and introduced themselves, but only one person stayed on my mind and it was that boy.
His hands moved elegantly across the canvas on his desk and in no time, a picture could be seen. The picture was hard to make out, but in that moment it could've been one of the best drawings I have ever seen.
My feet yearned to move over to him and finally approach him, but I couldn't with this whole crowd around me.
It wasn't that I was pretty or anything.
I'm far from it.
But I know these types of people, they want me close to them for their enjoyment only. They want to take advantage of me whenever they can. That's what sucks about being the new girl.
"P-Please leave me alone for a bit," I stuttered, but with demand still in my voice. When I lived in Gwangju with my parents, I grew used to knowing exactly what I wanted and taking control of situations. I don't care who hates me or judges me in the process, I just need to be alone sometimes.
The crowd dispersed and I was still sitting there in my seat, watching the birds soar and the clouds roll by. Before I know it, that bell is gonna ring and this day will be over.

My shoes clicked as I walked down the abandoned hallways. The sun was setting and the janitors were already out and cleaning up the place, readying it for the next dreadful day.
I popped my earbuds in and listened carefully to the catchy and upbeat music that played continuously in my ears.
It was the perfect day to take a long stroll home and forget about everything for a bit.
The air was fresh and soothing as I exited the school. All of the suffocating air within the building vanished, leaving the sounds of whistling birds and ruffling trees to keep me company.
All of this wasn't able to be enjoyed for long though, as my phone rang obnoxiously in my pocket. I had no choice but to unplug my earbuds and answer it.
"Ara, are you on your way home?" My brother's voice rang through my ears, making me slightly happier.
"Yep, I'm on my way."
"Good, And don't take to long."
"I won't, calm yourself."
"Okay... See you in a bit."
"Of course," and with that I hung up, returning to the fresh air around me.
The city was quiet, which was a little unsettling. It was never this quiet before.
