As the days went by I was more cautious of my surroundings then one could ever be. I didnt know when Jordan was plotting his next move or when he would strike next. All I knew is that I had to be cautious with every turning corner and sound. I couldn't let my guard down, not even for one second.
I set up the dinner table for 3. Tonight, despite everything I was having company. I wouldn't say that we were a couple or dating more like we were going steady. I like him and he liked me. But I wasn't ready for a serious relationship.
Not with everything I been through and especially not with Jordan lurking around. The last thing I want to do is get him involved in my baggage.
There is a knock at my door and its him.
"Hey beautiful." He smiles giving me a kiss on the cheek.
"Hey." I reciprocate the smile giving him a hug.
In true Kyle manner he arrived with a bouquet of roses and a bottle of wine. He place both on the counter top quickly turning his attention to Troy as I finished making dinner.
"Hey little man, what are you playing?" He asked Troy.
"Police and robbers!" He answered.
"Cool, can I play?" He questioned.
"Yeah." Troy smiled handing Kyle a toy badge. "You're the cop and I'm the bad guy." Troy added.
I finished making dinner and we all sat took a seat at the table and started enjoying dinner. Honestly, I loved these small moments like this.
Moments where everything seems so normal, where it seems like we are on big happy family. Where all the things from my past didnt exist.
"Kimmie?" Kyle shouted my name.
"Huh?" I responded looking at him.
"How was your week?" He said as he put his hand on my hand and smiled.
"It was good." I answered.
Burdening Kyle with my baggage was the last thing I wanted to do. I wanted to keep him away from my past as much as possible. I didnt want him in any kind of danger.
"I saw my daddy." Troy naively said.
"You did?" Kyle replied looking confused.
"Umm...Troy baby, go change into your pjs and mommy will be in to tuck you in, in a minute." I nodded my head towards him.
Troy went to his room and it was just I and Kyle alone.
"Once I get him to sleep. I will come out and talk to you." I said as I brush my hand again his.
About 30 minutes I walk out of Troy's room and sit next to Kyle on the couch.
"I thought you said his dad was dead." He said in a quite tone voice.
"Its a long story. I just didnt want to burden you with my past. And most importantly I didnt want to put you in any kind of harms way." I looked down.
"Dont worry about me Kimmie! I know how to take care of myself. And I know we haven't really defined our relationship. But trust me when I say that I want to protect and care for you with everything in me. But in order for that you have to be honest with me." He grabbed my hand.
I took a deep sigh and began to tell him the story of my long messy past.
After I was finished I look him fully expecting him to just walk out of my life for good. Except he did the exact opposite. He look directly into my eyes and place one hand on my cheek.
"I'm glad that you told me the truth. And I want you to know that I'm not going anywhere. I am going to protect you with everything I have. That's a promise." He whispered and lean in to kiss me on the lips.
Just then there was a knock on the door and I went to answer it. To my surprise it was Jordan.
