After the fall of SHIELD, HYDRA organizations lingered around in the world. Nick Fury told Steve and I of this. Of course, we couldn't get rid of them on our own, this is what brought the Avengers back together.
Tony had repaired Stark Tower after the attack on New York and made it into a new Avengers Facility. Everyone had a bedroom, there was a kitchen, living room, anything that would be in a house, but for seven people... And in a large tower in the middle of New York. Very low-key. But that was Tony Stark for you.
We had already taken down a couple of HYDRA facilities in the past week, this next one was in Sokovia, and we were scheduled to leave in the morning at five o'clock. It was 4:30 and I was quickly brushing my hair and pulling it up into a high ponytail in my bathroom while putting on my boots.
A knock came to my door and I stumbled out of the bathroom, putting on my second boot.
"I know, I know. I'm sorry, I over slept." I opened the door and stepped back when I found Thor standing there. I was expecting Tony or Steve to be there trying to hurry me up. "Oh, hi Thor." I ran over to my unmade bed and put on my belt, then began looking for my blade hilts.
"Barton made breakfast last night and he wanted me to give you this." Thor held up something wrapped in brown parchment.
"What is it?" I glanced at him before looking through my closet.
"An... Egg sandwich with... ham and cheese." Thor recited the name. "A strange combination, do you want it now or later?"
"Toss it here."
I held up my hands and Thor threw the wrapped up sandwich to me. I caught it and continued looking for the hilts. Thor must have caught on because he stepped into my room and began to search with me. I'm not even sure he knew what he was looking for because he looked at me with a blank expression and I patted the empty spots on my belt.
"They're on the dresser next to your sound making machine," Thor pointed and I looked at my dresser and next to my speaker to see the two blade hilts.
"Thank you." I grabbed the hilts and attached them to my belt before turning off the lights and leaving my room.
I unwrapped my sandwich and began eating it as Thor and I walked down the hallway- I practically ran- to the living room and kitchen. Everyone was standing, except for Clint who was sitting on an arm chair, slumped against the back cushion like he was ready to sleep again. Steve leaned against the wall with his arms crossed. Tony was standing by the door, hands on his hips and ready to go. Natasha stood behind the chair Clint was sitting in and Bruce stood awkwardly in the middle of the group.
"After so many years! She has finally arrived!" Tony extended his arms outward.
"I know, but I'm here and it's..." I looked at the clock in the kitchen that opened out to the living space. "4:45, let's go!"
We walked out to the balcony where a Quinjet was parked. Clint and Natasha took their seats in the cockpit and I sat down on a seat against the wall.
"Did you not sleep well?" Steve asked, standing next to me.
"No, I had a little nightmare." I answered quietly. "Nothing I can't handle."
Steve glanced down at me with a soft smile. We had been through a lot in the past year; SHIELD had been compromised by HYDRA, we basically destroyed the Triskelion and revealed all of SHIELD's secrets. We found our long lost friend Bucky Barnes who we thought had died in World War II, but he turned out to be a HYDRA assassin. I also found out that I used to be a HYDRA assassin, being brought in and out of Cryogenic Freeze to kill people. Fun times.
