(Heeeeeyyy guys! Sorry for the long wait in between chapters :/ I haven't felt motivated to work on another chapter, and I had a lot of testing going on, but that's no excuse to keep you all waiting this long! Anyways, here it is~! :D)
---------------------------------------☆
John had woken up in a cold sweat on the floor. His breathing slowed down as he looked around at his surroundings. He had almost forgotten where he was. It was about 3 in the morning, and no one else was awake but him.
He looked around, still breathing heavily, and noticed the sleeping girl beside him. His breathing slowed as he remembered what happened the night before. He tried to go back to sleep but then he realized-
Martha.
He couldn't just sit here while his little sister was trapped back home with Henry. He couldn't put her through the same pain he had to endure since his mother left. He felt a twinge of guilt in him as he realized how long he had left Martha with their father. He got up quietly, trying his best not to wake Eliza up. He gathered up his things until he suddenly dropped the dagger on the floor.
"Shiiit!" John whisper-screamed.
Eliza shifted around in her bed slightly. John's eyes widened as his adrenaline kicked in hardcore. He dropped a couple more of his things before eventually just setting his bag down on the floor in front of him. He looked down at Eliza, making sure she was still asleep. He noticed something...
Damnit. She was cuddled up with his cloak. As if he needed another thing that could wake her up.
He reached for the cloak until she swiftly moved away from him in her sleep. John, being terrified, fell on the floor.
John sighed and left the cloak in Eliza's arms. He pulled the covers onto Eliza as a last "thank you" to her. Making sure his clumsy self didn't fall again, he headed out the door.
---------------------------------------☆
John started running as soon as he made his way into the castle corridors. He knew that people were still looking for him, and that he was an easy target to find. In about 5 minutes of him running around, he got lost. Jesus, how big even was this place? It took him 10 minutes to figure out he was walking in a circle around the castle.
He took a left turn into a brightly lit corridor. He quickly regretted that decision when he heard footsteps approaching him. Frightened, he looked around for hiding places. He ran behind a nearby pillar, his heart nearly beating out of his chest. He had to cover his mouth in fear that his breathing would give away where he was hiding.
"Any updates?" A stern voice asked.
John didn't recognize this voice. It had a bit of an accent to it, meaning it couldn't be the king. Whoever it was, however, probably wanted John dead.
"N-No L- I mean- Sir. Sorry I'm just not used to you b-being Head Guard-," said a different, and even deeper voice.
"Ugh. No time for small talk! Are you sure you haven't seen the elf around!?" The voice demanded.
John was physically shaking at this point. It took all of the strength in him to not screech as loud as possible.
"I told you I didn't see anything!" The second voice shouted.
"Ugh...," the first voice groaned. "Then continue looking around. He's bound to be here somewhere. And if you do find him, do not hesitate to kill him."
"Y-Yes sir!"
John then heard heavy footsteps trail off into the distance. He took a second to breathe after all of that. His heartbeat slowed and he was put at ease. He fell to the floor and laid his head against the pillar.
He was just about to get up and start walking again when he heard more footsteps. John tried to calm himself but ended up panicking. What if those people saw him? What if he was caught?
It suddenly got quiet.
John felt a hand rest on his shoulder.
"AAAAAAAAAHHH!," John screeched.
The hand quickly covered his mouth, muffling his screams.
"John, shhh! It's me!" said a familiar voice.
The figure, wearing a black cloak, took off it's hood. It was Eliza.
John had never been more relieved in his life. He was shaking once again.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt? Why did you come out here? Are you stupid!?!?" Eliza said rapidly, throwing question after question at him.
"Yeah! Yeah, I'm okay- just- calm down, okay?" John whispered.
Eliza was breathing heavily.
"Let's just get you back to my room, okay?" She said, her voice shakey.
---------------------------------------☆
Eliza opened the door to her room and shoved John into it just as she did the night before.
"What the hell were you thinking!?"
John couldn't respond. He was out of breath and panicking. He looked up at Eliza. Her face was bright red with anger.
"You could've been seen! You could have been hurt and you don't even answer me!?" She screamed.
"I-I'm sorry!" He yelled back. He took a breath in and calmed down. "Look, I'm sorry for just disappearing like that, but I need to go. The reason why I came in the first place was to get away from my dad, but I need to go back. My sister needs me."
Eliza grew silent. Her face went back to the peachy shade it usually was as she calmed down.
"I-...I get that. I don't know where I would be without my sisters, so I understand...b-but you can't just leave like this! You're an elf, and you'll be killed...I can't let that happen."
They both looked down at the floor, afraid of making eye contact with eachother.
John thought for a moment. He needed Eliza's help, but he knew she wouldn't trust her after tonight. After all, they had only knew eachother for a day, and he was already trying to escape.
But then he remembered the reason why they met in the first place.
"Hey, Eliza?" He said quietly, breaking the silence.
"Y-Yeah?" She asked softly.
'Why did you try to leave last night? You looked like you were in a hurry."
"Well... I didn't want to be married off. The stupid ball we were throwing was to find me a husband. Heh..good thing you were there to give me a better excuse to leave!" She said while chuckling.
"Well...if I help stop you from getting married, will you help me leave?" John said hesitantly. "I just know that you need help, and I need help too, so I just figured- I know it sounds stupid- I just-"
"Let's do it!" Eliza said, cutting him off. Though her voice was still a bit shakey, she sounded confident.
"So...It's a deal?" John asked holding out his hand.
"It's a deal," she said, shaking his hand.
