TRACK TEN: THE BRIGHTEST GREEN

phil glanced around holiday's room, this wasn't first time he had been in here but it still felt new every time. posters were hung up around her room, along with a whole wall filled with pictures of her friends, mainly sam, lilam and phil himself. he moved over to the picture wall, eyes searching for the one picture he held dear to himself. he told her to hang onto it, he didn't trust himself with something that meant that much to him. then he found it, it was stuck right in the middle of the collage, he told himself that it meant nothing but then there was that 5% of his brain that screamed it meant something. it didn't.

holiday had her arms thrown over his waist and his arms were hooked around her neck, it was at prom last year and holiday wanted a silly picture, so they traded places. other than phil's hands on her hips, her's were on his and vise versa. her dress was long and bright green, the brightest green he had ever seen. it wasn't neon, so it wasn't an annoyingly green. it suited her, it really did. she asked him to be her date to prom stating that she didn't want to take sam for the third time that year and liam wasn't going. sam never even showed up, holiday found out why days later. phil was just glad liam didn't tell her on the night of prom, he would have hated a ruined memory.

that night was the night phil told her he had a crush on her. she kissed him on the cheek and told him he loved him as a brother. ouch. his heart still hurt at that, but he was just glad holiday was still in his life, he wouldn't imagine it without her.

"whatcha lookin' at?" holiday asked, bouncing into the place next to him, hands on his back to peer over his shoulder. "oh i loved that night, we had so much fun." she sighed, laying her head on his shoulder.

the older of the two smiled, turning over to look at the girl that he desperately wanted to hold forever. his hands itched to tuck away a strand of fallen hair, but he kept them in his pockets. she wasn't his, and she wouldn't ever be. he just had to live with that now.

"come on, we gotta go, liam wants us back at his house. apparently, cole is there now and he wanted to see us play in the place we feel most comfortable." she fell back onto her giant bed, the comforter had been thrown around and the pillows were out of place. to anyone, it would have looked like she had someone over but that's just how she slept. she rolled and kicked and even talked in her sleep.

her hair waterfalled over her face as she leaned over her knees to pull her shoes out from under her bed, white vans that slipped on with ease. she jumped up ten seconds later, grabbing phil by the wrist and tugging him out of her room, shutting off the light before they fled from the house. he was her ride to liam's today, sam had stayed the at the boys' house the night previous and holiday knew that phil wouldn't mind going out of his way to get her. they needed her anyways, she was the lead singer and they technically couldn't do anything without her knowing or having to be there.

fifteen minutes later they pulled into liam's driveway, the garage door open and inside was sam, leaned over liam's guitar set to talk to him.

"what are you gays doing?" phil smiled when he got out, shutting off the engine of his car.

"oh just making out," sam said at the same time liam said, "didn't you mean guys?"

"i meant what i said." phil smirked, entering the garage and chuckling when he noticed the blush creeping onto liam's face. he cleared his throat before standing up and shuffling towards the door.

"i'm gonna go get cole..."

"yeah you go do that, buddy! get me a juice please!" sam called after him.

"long night?" holiday asked her twin, walking up to him and looking him over. the longer phil stared at the boy the longer he noticed things out of place. for starters: he wasn't wearing any of his clothes, all of which were liam's. next, his hair was a disaster, more of a mess than it normally is. he couldn't bother to brush it out? huge bags lined under his eyes and he looked impossibly skinner, his collar bones flashing through the low hung shirt, his cheeks hollow and lips cracked.

"no i'm good, liam just made me sleep on the floor." just as he spoke liam entered, sam whipping his head to the boy. "the bitch,"

"not my fault you vomite- kick in your sleep. you always leave me bruises." the black haired boy passed sam a cup of pink-ish red juice before resuming his position by the drums. cole entered next, his eyes looking up from his phone, his mouth cracking into a smile when he noticed holiday standing there.

"holly! so happy to see you," he wrapped his arms around her small frame, her eyes wide as she hugged him back, staring at phil with uncomfortableness in her eyes. cole took an immediate liking to her, probably because she was beautiful. phil didn't like cole one bit, sam's words rattling his brain.

you can't just hate everyone who likes holly, she's very likable.

if you're not going to protect her then i need to.

she doesn't need protecting, phil, she's a big girl, she can handle herself.

phil knew he was right, holiday was a big girl and she could fight her own battles but that didn't stop phil from always having an eye and an ear out for her at all times. cole released the girl and she quickly sidestepped him and closed herself over to phil. the older man wasn't a tall as phil, and definitely not as strong. his only source of power came from his income. cole was in his mid-twenties and survived off mommy and daddy's money.

"alright kids, what are we playing today?" he clapped his hands together, taking a seat in the chair that daniel once sat in a couple of days ago.

holiday smiled lightly as she pushed phil back into his spot, he quickly grabbed his guitar and smiled too. "mr. watson?" holiday turned around and asked liam.

"works for me."

"got it." sam added.

holiday turned to phil.

"you know i have all of your favorite songs memorized."
