Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1 ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

September 3, 19:30 hrs. (7:30 p.m.)

I was reading on top of my bed when I heard a knock on my bedroom door.

My dad appeared, "Jess, dinner is ready, come sit with us."

I rolled my eyes and nodded, "I'll be there in a minute."

I closed my book, put my slippers on and went downstairs.

Before they sat and saw me, I grabbed my food quickly and went upstairs really fast, almost running, I don't like awkward convos with them; I opened my bedroom door and put my food on my nightstand. I turned on the TV and watched New Girl while eating.

When I finished, I went downstairs and put my dishes in the dishwasher. When I turned around I happened to see my dog, Mabli, looking at me and moving her tail. I grabbed her and gave her a hug and a kiss and then put her down. I went upstairs again so I could brush my teeth and wash my face. When I was done I went to sleep.

September 4, 06:00 a.m.

I woke up quick, went into my bathroom and showered.

When I got out of the shower, I put my clothes on. I was wearing some light blue denim jeans, a fitting black shirt and converse. My backpack was just a navy blue color one.

07:20 a.m.

I drove to school and when I got there, I didn't expect anything new, people hooking up in the hallway, 8th graders running around, girls talking, boys checking them out, and then there's me... All alone, reading a book, not caring who's around me calling me whatever they want. When I read, I'm in my own world.

The bell rang and we went to the gym for some kind of "welcoming". We sat on the benches and I didn't stop reading until I heard so many voices I couldn't even focus on the book.

And then I noticed that Luke was sitting right next to me with his friends. I felt my body getting cold.

One of his friends, I think it's Michael, noticed that I was looking at them so then, he looked at me right in the eyes and greeted me.

I just gave him a big smile and then Calum joined. "Hey! I've seen you before, you were from our class last year, right?" I felt I had my "surprised look" on; I nodded. Luke joined the conversation, "Dude, how come have you seen her if she's new here!"

I didn't know how to feel that moment; it was like the world was falling down. I decided to answer, "I've been here for 2 years now… I'm not even close to new." I rolled my eyes and went back to my reading, trying to not cry. I was right when I said to myself that I didn't exist for him...

He stared at me with his eyes wide open and said, "I'm really sorry I didn't...-" I cut him off.

"Look, I'm trying to read. Please, do not talk REALLY loud, I can't focus on my reading if people are like YELLING." My voice cracked a little bit, containing myself from all the tears that were about to come.

They stood silent for a moment then Calum said, "Luke, that's some deep shit."

I smiled a little bit, a smile they could never notice.

"Oh shut up, Cal," Luke said.

After the welcoming, we went to our class and I was still reading, almost finishing my book.
