She looked up into the sky as she heard a mighty roar in the distance. The screams of the townsfolk filled her ears. Everyone ran, ran for their lives but she was just stuck there watching the dragon flying over the mountains. Its wings matched the beat of her heart. It was as if she could understand it, relate to it, like she knew what it was thinking. It let out a roar, chasing the civilians as they ran.
He seemed to ignore her, flying overhead. He knew that she was there but somehow he connected to her. He didn't want to attack her; it was more like he needed to protect her. He breathed in and let out a breath of fire, setting the houses alight. He came down to sit next to the girl. She was tiny in comparison to him but as she reached out to touch him it seemed as if she were growing. Wings... she had wings, and scales. Suddenly it all made sense.
She was a dragon too.
