The next day I took a shower when I got home from work at the cinema. After that I quickly put on white shorts and a pink shirt and put on some makeup. When the clock was 5:45, I went to Brent's house.

I knocked and Brent opened shortly after.

"Hello." I said.

"Hello." He said he let me in.

"So, where is your family?" I asked.

"Well, my parents are out at some bar tonight to celebrate a friend so I am alone until tomorrow night." he said.

I went into the living room and saw a very nicely laid table. I sat down at the table and watched the lit candles and the white china and the classy wine glasses.

Brent sat down opposite me.

"It looks nice." I said.

"Well, to the day in honor. It's after all a not-a-date." he said. I laughed a little. Then the doorbell rang.

"It must be the food." Brent said and got up and opened.

The food? You could not see the door from here so I did not know who had rung on.

After a while Brent back in with a pizza box in his arms.

"The pizza has arrived." He said.

"Wow! So now I get to eat pizza on beautiful china." I laughed.

"And then you get to drink soda in a wine glass." He added.

He went to get a soda bottle from the refrigerator and then he served me pizza. We behaved ourselves joking during the first part of the dinner. We ate the pizza as if we were in a luxury restaurant. We ate with a knife and fork and toasted with glasses and said things like "oh, this chef has done well!" And "yes, you can really feel the taste of oregano." With beautiful voices.

But then we stopped to fool us and went back to the real.

"This is actually the nicest not-a-date I've been on." He said.

"Same here," I laughed. Mostly because I have never been on one before and I was pretty sure that he hadn't been at so many either.

"So I know you're best friends with Leah and Jonathan and that you have a real asshole as an ex, but otherwise I have not seen anyone else around you." He said.

"Well, I'm not really the popular girl. I only have you guys ." I said.

"Oh, don't say so! Hope you have a family that at least you like?" He said.

"Actually, my mother died 2 years ago. And dad, I have not seen since I was 9 years old," I said.

"What did she die of?" he asked. He did not seem particularly shy of themselves when it came to questions. Luckily, I was not too sensitive to response.

"Cancer. She got a brain tumor when I was 11." I said.

"And your father just left you?" he asked.

"Yes, he said he was going to Alaska with the job, but he did not come back. But sometimes we get gas bills from Las Vegas." I said.

"Well, my dad is not in Vegas. He's a boring accountant." he said. It made me laugh to.

There was a long moment of silence while Brent examined me. He smiled.

"What?" I laughed a little.

"Isn't it funny how it only takes a minute to get a crush on some one, one hour to like someone and just a day to love someone. But it takes a lifetime to forget someone." he said.

"My mom forgot me in a parkinglot once." I said. He just laughed.

"So you do not believe in it?" he asked.

"No. How can you fall in love with someone in a day?" I said.

"If you get to know the person." he said.

"It's a first impression." I persisted.
