2 months laterI was lying on the closed street where the car crashed had happened. I was thinking of Leah while I was lying there. I looked at the tree tops who just seemed to grow bigger for every time I was blinking.
What if Leah hadn't died. What if she would have gone to the autumn dance. Would she be together with Will by now? Or would they have realized that they're not meant for each other. Would it still be driving cars just where I am lying right now.
Brent and I have gone really serious. I know what you are thinking. 'You've only dated a few months.' I know, right? I am thinking the same thing. But it's weird how close you get to a person through a loved ones death. It's like we have known each other for years. Probably just because we both have grown up with Leah.
"Are you still here?" Brent said and smiled. He stood at the side of the road. He had just come to pick me up.
"Yeah.." I said and sat up.
"Weren't we supposed to eat dinner?" He asked and helped me up.
"Yes. What time is it?" I said.
"Uhm.. Five over I'm hungry." He joked.
"No but seriously let's go." He said.
We walked to a little dinner place near us and we were just about to order when I heard some one yelled at me.
"Hey blondie! Wanna have some fun?" Some guys yelled. I saw how Brent hitched his jaw at the comment.
"Just ignore them." I whispered to him and kept ordering my food.
"Blondie! Did you hear me?" The guy yelled again.
"Hey! Let her be!" Brent yelled and took a step towards them before I stopped him.
"Brent stop! Come on let's go." I said and took our stuff and sat down by a table.
"Wow boyfriend think he is protective." We heard the guys say as they walk away.
"So what's happening in life?" I asked Brent.
"Well, I am thinking about joining The guitar class in school. But you know I like to play on my own." He said. I saw how his eyes followed someone who just came in the door. He got a smile on his face.
"Did you see that?" He asked.
"See what?" I asked and turned around.
"Nicole Watson? The hottest girl at school. She just winked at me." He said pretty happily.
"Uhm.. Okay.." I said.
"Don't you see? That would mean I could have a chance on her." He said.
"Uhm.. Aren't you forgetting something here?" I asked.
"I know I am together with you but,.." He began.
"But?! Are you serious?!" I said offended.
"It's not like that, Cass.." He said.
"Well I am sure it's not, but I can't think of any god way of how that sentence could end." I said and left the table and walked out of the restaurant. I saw how Brent quickly stood up, threw some money on the table to pay our lunch and then ran after me.
"Cass! You know that is not how I meant!" He screamed after me.
"So what did you mean exactly?! That you just can sit around thinking of dating hotter people than me and tell me about it?!" I said.
" Cass! Please listen!" He said and stopped walking. But I didn't I just ran away. I ran home.
2 hours later I heard the door open. It was Brent.
He gave me a short look and put the keys at the table. I watched him while he took of his jacket off but as soon as he looked att me I turned my face to my book I was reading.
"What are you reading?" He asked and sat down in front if me.
"Summer nights." I told him quitly.
"Well is it good?" He asked.
"Okay I can't do this. Are you really wanting to be with Nicole?!" I said.
"Well.." He began before I threw my book at him.
"What is 'summer nights' a weapon now?" He said. I stood up and where about walk out the room when he grabbed my hand and stood up.
"Cass.." He said and put his finger under my chin, forcing me to look him in the eyes.
"Cassie.. You know I wouldn't want anyone but you." He said.
"But you are thinking about her right?" I said serious.
"Well.. She is a beautiful girl but.." He said.
"But what?!" I said and let go of his hand and turned around.
"But she is nothing compeared to you!" He said.
"Then you shouldn't even think about her!" I said loud.
"I am not." He said.
"Well you clearly are!"
"Cassandra are serious?!" He screamed.
"What?! So I should just sit around being all fine with you thinking of other more hotter girls than me?!" I screamed with hoarse voice, feeling a tear rolling down my cheek.
"Cassie.." He said looking at me.
"And it is even worse if you are telling me about it!!" I said.
"So would you rater want me to do it behind your back??!!" He said angry.
"No.." I said sadly and sat down on the couch.
"I just want you think of me. Only me. I wanna be the girl of your dreams. Not Nicole, not anyone else." I said crying.
Brent sighed and hit a chair so that it tipped over. Than he sat down on another one and put his head in his hands.
"You are the girl of my dreams and you know that." He said.
I didn't say anything. I just sat sobbing. He looked at me with a devestated, tired look.
"I am going to bed." He said and walked into the bedroom.
I stayed. I sat on couch with my head in my hands. I was sobbing. My shoulders moved in a hurried rythm along to my breath. All my thoughts flew by until my head hurted so much that I couldn't stand being awake.
I went into the bedroom and layed down in the bed beside Brent. I was laying as far away from Brent I could with my back against him.
"Cass.." Brent said tired while looking at me.
"Please. No more talking today." I said.
I heard him sigh and then he turned around, facing my back with his, making a bigger gap of empty sheets between us.
