"I'm sorry ma'am. Ms. Tesla has slipped out our grasp with the plans and nanotech aboard her ship."
Pidge growled, the garrison guard shrinking under her glare. "Quiznack! Can no one here do their jobs correctly? How could one measly person slip through the grasp of the entire garrison security force?" It wasn't meant as a question, she mearly meant to prove her point of how her last two years of work had just been stolen.
To put it bluntly, she was pissed.
She had devoted all of her time into developing new nanotechnology infused with Altean alchemy to speed up the creation process for legit anything. So many hours she had slaved over her research and trial samples, and when she had finally made a breakthrough, one of her trusted workers had stolen all of her work!
Tesla. The name was sour in her mouth now.
Even as Pidge chugged the cold coffee in her "This cup empty, Yeet" mug, she still couldn't lose the taste of betrayal.
She stood in the garrison lab, coffee cup in hand and murder in her eyes as she stared down the guard in front of her. Her colleagues around her had stopped their work to watch her rage out.
"You had ONE job. Prevent anyone, with the exclusion of me, from entering my sample room. And what did you do?" She was nearly screaming at this point. The guard cowered and she leaned forward again. "What did you do?"
"I...I let her in." The man squeaked.
"And why did you do that?"
He lowered his gaze, unable to face the seething woman anymore. "She had your keycard and she said you authorized her to enter and retrieve your samples. I see you and her together all the time, so I thought it was ok...."
"Get out."
The man needed no coercion as he all but leapt out of the lab, finally free from the head scientists terror.
Pidge took a long sip from her cold black coffee, then targeted the scientists that continually watched her. "Get back to work!" She snapped. Every eye turned back to what they had originally been doing before the...distraction.
Stalking down the hall and towards her private lab, Pidge growled at anyone who dared look at her. After scanning her hand on the identity pad and walking into her lab, she collapsed in the nearby roll chair with a huff. In front of her was her desk, littered with papers and coffee stains, with a framed picture of the entire Voltron team by her keyboard. Across the desk was a large lab with various computers and tools for her to use at any time. Pidge pulled herself into a proper sitting position, pushing her coffee mug to the side. It was cold and nasty now. Why was she even still drinking it?
Her fingers flew over the keyboard, documents and files being pulled up. "It can't be gone..." she muttered.
The door to her lab opened, and Pidge could see her brother, Matt, enter the room. "Geeze Pidge, at least turn on the lights." He flicked a switch and as the lights flooded the area, Pidge hissed.
"I think you made that security guard wet himself!" Matt crowed as he ruffled her hair. Even though his sister was an adult now, she would always be his 'little sis'.
"Get off!" Pidge snapped, jerking her head to the side. She was not in the right frame of mind for affection.
Matt gasped, clutching his heart in an overly dramatic way. "I'm offended! Is my dearest sister truly having a mood?" He collapsed to the floor, making sure to kick her on the way down. "Oh Pidge!"
"I will yeet you out of this room if you don't stop right now." She paused before adding, "princess."
Leaping to his feet and planting a hand on his hip, Matt pointed at her. "Ex'scuse you! I am a QUEEN."
Anger melted away as the siblings laughed together. A pure moment indeed.
"Ok, ok," Matt insisted between breaths, "serious now." His laughter subsided as he knelt beside the computer and pulled up security files. "Someone on our side had to have programmed the Teladuv with the coordinates of where Tesla went. Only two fighter jets were able to make it through the wormhole before the coordinates changed, and both have gone offline. We need to find the mole and get the coordinates from him so we can track her down."
An image of Tesla's ship flying through the wormhole showed up on the computer screen, the security footage replaying over and over. Pidge nodded and closed the footage. "But who could've done that? We trusted Tesla, but she betrayed us. It was just like Lotor." The memory of when Keith returned bringing the news of Lotor's treachery flashed through her mind.
Matt turned her chair, forcing her to face him. "She was terrible for doing that, but we have to focus on the problem at hand. Finding the mole. I've already notified garrison security, and they're treading lightly."
Pidge mumbled under her breath, something about the terrible security team, and sighed. "I just can't restart all of my theories and tests without that research. Who knows what Tesla will do with it?" She imagined Tesla becoming famous from Pidge's own research and cringed. Like heck she would.
"Maybe there's a buyer?" Matt supplied. "She could've sold your work for a profit."
"No," Pidge grabbed her framed photo of the Voltron team, wishing times could go back to being so simple. "She's not one to be motivated by money."
"But she did lie to your face and steal from you."
"Touche."
She gently returned the photo to where it had originally been sitting. A few moments passed where neither spoke, yet still enjoyed the company. Had times truly become more difficult for them? They both worked in the garrisons science division inventing new creations for the betterment of the galaxy, and for training the new 'defenders of the galaxy'. Matt had married to a sweet alien, Nebula, that he had met during his time with the coalition, and now had a baby on the way. He hadn't been working a lot recently, due to wanting to be with his wife while she was carrying (Or "nesting" as her race preferred to call it).
Meanwhile, Pidge had just been throwing herself into her work, excited for each new algorithm or data code she could learn. Maybe one day she would settle down, but not today. She was only 20 years old and still discovering new things. Romance could wait, she had different priorities.
First things first, find the mole.
