Evelyn walked down the hall with annoyance clear on her face. Even after her outburst, the Honor Board still refused to suspend her, and her parents forced her to still go to school even though she really just wanted to skip, but decided to listen to her parents and not cause more trouble.
She thought she would be left alone, especially after her almost fight three days prior, her best friend being suspended, and her not showing up to the basketball game on Saturday night, which was her usual scene, and showed up to school with a non faltering scowl on her face letting people know she wasn't in the mood to be bothered. But she wasn't lucky enough to get out of Clay's radar. He had been looking for her since the day had begun, finally spotting her at her locker.
"Can I talk to you, in private?"
She looks around to make sure no one was paying attention, which to her surprise weren't, since all eyes had been on her from the moment she stepped foot into the hallway without her partner in crime, before nodding her head. She walks, Clay following closely behind, into an empty classroom. He closes the door behind them as she sits on top of a desk, her feet dangling as she stares down at them, her nightmare from last night that carried into the morning, causing lack of sleep, still running in her mind.
Clay notices her distracted and tired expression, making him walk closer to her, putting a hand on her shoulder. "Are you alright, Eve?"
"I-" She begins, but sighs, pushes his hand off her shoulder, causing him to take a couple steps back, realizing she wasn't going to open up. She decides she's not ready to talk about it yet nor open up to someone she's not supposed to be getting close to at that moment.
"What did you want to talk about, Jensen?"
"What did Sheri do, to be a reason on the tapes?" "How'd you know she was a reason on them and not just named a couple times like I was?"
"Well she kissed me the other night, and basically admitted it was only because she didn't want me to think she's a bad person for what she did to get on the tapes."
Evelyn scoffs, letting out a little laugh. "A 'bad' person doesn't even come close to what that bitch is." "Why do you hate her so much? Does it have to do with Zach? Did she hook up with him or something?"
Evelyn takes in a deep breath, her breath shaky as she does. "I wish it was something that small.. I really do." She sadly mutters in response.
Clay gives her a questioning look, making her sigh as she hops off the desk, walking towards him slowly before putting a hand on his face. "Listen, Clay. You can't trust her. You're going to have to listen to the tapes and hear what she did, it's what Hannah would've wanted."
"Since when do you care what Hannah wants?" He asks, as she pulls her hand down slowly. "I don't. But you do. So listen."
She begins to walk towards the door to leave the room, but Clay's words stop her. "I listened to Zach's tape. I know Hannah had feelings for him, and that's probably another reason why you hate her, and I don't blame you."
Evelyn shakes her head, looking at the floor not wanting to talk about why her and Zach aren't together anymore. "Yeah, she really knew how to fall for unavailable guys."
"Hannah lied, you know."
"About what?" She snaps her head, looking back at Clay, as hope started to set in on her, hoping that what Hannah lied about was Zach trying to talk to her, and having some sort of feelings for her.
"The note. The note she said she gave him and he crumpled up and threw on the floor. He still has it. So who knows what else she lied about."
The news made Evelyn's heart sink a little. Clay's news had only told her that Zach must've really cared about Hannah to keep her note, letting her know everything she needed to about how Zach truly felt about Hannah.
