“Sexy little Vega Val-.”
“Miles!”“What? When you see her and her perfect curves,” A groan comes from Miles mouth. If I was in there I would have smacked him upside the head but I am glad I’m not because I can feel the fire burning on my face.
“She’s so innocent too. The things I would do to that perfect body of hers.”
“Are you done?” Landen’s voice is hard and authorative, I have the feeling that he rarely needed to yell.
“I-”
“You’re done. Jasper just tell me what you have, I’m a busy man.” I am almost a hundred percent sure Miles just mumbled ‘you need to get laid’ under his breath. “What do you have on her?”My heart was pounding, I didn’t know how well my identity, my cover would hold up against one of there hackers. If they put my name ‘Vega Valdez’ into any search engine, for example google then I wouldn’t appear anywhere, no facebook, nothing. But if they looked me up through mafia resources which could identify just about anyone. Then more than likely Vega Valdez would pop up, which is what frightened me, because that identity only surfaced with me about three months ago. But that wasn’t even the worst part, I have no idea how good their hacker is, I have no idea if he will be able to link me back to my other name.
“That’s just it, nothing.”
There was a lengthy pause, I could just imagine a stern looking man sitting behind a huge desk glaring at Jasper. “A fake name then? Who is she?”
“I-I don’t know.” I could almost hear the raise of the boss’s eyebrow. “Well you see, her name it was there. But when I tried to go deeper my tablet got a virus.”
“So use another computer. God knows I buy you enough of them.” there was an impatience in his voice.
“Sir, you don’t understand. My computers, they don’t get viruses. Its to well protected, the only person who has the skill to could put a virus on my laptop, who could by pass my security, well, was Eli.”
Wait. Eli, as in Elijah?
“Are you saying she’s as good as Eli was or that someone who is protecting her is?”
“I doubt it’s her sir.”
Ouch.
“If someone protecting her is as good as Eli was and is trying to protect her form the mafia then they most likely think she could be used against them. They would be in the mafia. Have you check the list for her name?”I knew what list they were speaking of. You put the names of people you wanted the mafia to stay way from, a child, wife, husband or possibly a good friend. People who don’t know about the mafia but are protect by it. Its an unspoken rule, stay away from those on the list.
“It’s not on there sir.” A hum sounded and the squeak of a chair, Jasper was nervous. “But uh, sir? The thing is, the code of the virus. Well, uh, I recognise it.”
“Spit it out Jasper, who wrote it.”
“Eli, sir. It’s Elijah code.” Elijah? Why would Elijah be protecting me. He was dead. Which meant he had to have done it before he ever met me. But why? I never met him, I would remember if I did, I was trained to remember every person I ever met, every face. The nagging feeling that I was missing something came back in the forefront of my mind. Elijah did recognize me that night, he recognized my face and knew who I was. No one outside of the gang and the occasional important high paying customer knows who I am. Yet he recognized me. It was a question I had been ignoring for months because I didn’t have an answer to how he knew who I was. “But sir, the thing is, I don’t think Eli put the virus on the name Vega Valdez. The last thing my tablet was doing before the virus infected it, was connecting to another name. I didn’t see the name before my computer crashed and erased but if I had to guess Eli put the virus on that name.” Jasper sucks in a huge breath for the first time since he started speaking. “Eli was protecting this woman and I have no idea why. The only thing I know for sure is that Vega Valdez didn’t exist 4 months ago.”
