"Dad," I wrote. "I know this is going to be hard for you, because this is hard for me. We have to say goodbye for a little while. If we stayed, we might all die, and I'm not willing to let that happen for the sake of my own happiness. Me and Grace are in trouble. We have to go into hiding for a while, no longer than a year. I promise we will be back. Please don't look for us, it will only make it harder on all of us. I love you. Emerson."

I felt a tear run down my face and furiously wiped it away. I have to be strong, for Grace.

"The car is packed. I'm ready when you are." Jude said as he walked in the door, with Grace trailing behind him.

"Okay, I'm coming." Sensing that this was hard for me, Grace walked over to me and grabbed my hand. I was grateful for her.

"I'm ready." I whispered.

We walked out of our appartment and down the hall to the elevator. We pushed the button, and the noise indicating that the elevator was now on our floor was the only sound I had heard since we closed the door. We went on the elevator and walked to the car and still, no one said anything. It was silent while we all got in the car and while Jude started the engine. It was the kind qof silence where noise was needed, but no one really knew what to say. Trying to break it, I started talking. Or, babbling would be more accurate.

"So, Jude. Are we going to live in the mountains somewhere? Like in a cave or something, because that would be cool. Or maybe the beach, I love the beach. What about in New York? I've always wanted to go to New York. No, London. Yes, let's go to London!" I took a long breath, which was needed considering that I forgot to breathe for a minute there.

"Oh!" Grace yelled. "Like Harry Potter! We can go to platform 9 3/4, no one can hurt us at Hogwarts. Pllleeeeaaassseeee Jude!"

"Those are all great ideas, but im actually going to take you guys somewhere a little more...plausable. Like my house." Jude started driving. He went straight to the highway.

This suprised me. I didn't expect him to take us to somewhere he had previously lived. "Don't you have a family who needs to live in your house?" I wondered.

"It's our cabin, we only use it during the summer because it's usually too cold in the winter. So I hope you guys brought some warm clothes." I mentally sighed in relief, thankful for being someone who packs everything I own.

"How far is it from here?" Grace asked.

"About 300 miles, should only take us around 5 hours, give or take." I heard Grace groan in the backseat, and laughed a little. She never was good with carrides.

"Grace, why don't you try to take a nap?" I asked her, as Jude turned on the radio. I glanced at him, and saw a look of recignation on his face. "She took a midnight train going anyyyywhereeee" He sang, passionately. His voice sounded rough, but nice. I immediately smiled and started singing along. By the end of the song, he was using a waterbottle for a microphone, which was was left behind in the cupholder from who-knows-when, and my hair was it knots from whipping it around so much. Grace was giggling in the backseat, and I was shocked that I could be anything but misrible in this situation.

An hour of pointless conversation passed, and Grace eventually fell asleep. I just sat in silence. I started thinking about my dad, and how misrible he would be when he got home and saw the note. I checked the clock on my phone and since it was Saturday, he would be home any second. I felt the tears fall onto my hands before I knew I was crying.

"Can we pull over." I asked Jude, trying to keep my voice from shaking. He nodded, and said that he would pull into the next building we passed. Within two minutes, I was full on sobbing. "Please pull over now." I begged.
