That night I was getting ready for bed, and Vladamir's words about me having a chance in the military ran through my mind constantly.
I'd always thought the military was cool, and after my death, it was something I realized I'd love to be apart of. Vladamir knew military material, and him saying those words really made me feel hope in myself for once.
It made me realize maybe there were chances for me to do human things after all. Lucifire was right though, I do need a job. I could just work at the corner café, considering I wouldn't need any major human-like things for that. I could make coffee just as well as any living human.
I hopped into bed and turned my light off. I sat under my checkerboard covers for a bit, thinking.
I thought about the military, a job, and other small random things, but the military was the major thing. I fell asleep wondering what I would be like in battle.I woke up, the sun in my eyes. I squinted, hating the blinding light. I got up and I threw on sweatpants instead of my shorts, and I walked out of my room to the hallway, where Vladamir was standing. He turned his head to me, hearing me enter the hallway. He turned all his attention towards me, his eye lighting up. I noticed his phone was opened to messages.
"Shadow! You never will believe my news!" He said excitedly.
I yawned. "What's up?"
"I get accepted back into military! Say they need better leader back!" He said, looking like he was going to be hopping up and down any second now.
I opened my eyes wide. "Vladamir I'm so happy for you!" I said, tiredly smiling.
"And that is not all!" He said, looking like he was about to burst.
"What is it?" I asked.
"I want you come with me!" He exclaimed, his smile as wide as possible.
My mouth hung open. "What?!" I yelled.
"Da! You are perfect for it! You will be second in command. You in?" Hope sparkled in his eye.
I took a second to think. Yes, this is exactly what I've wanted for ever. "Ja! I am in!" I said, smiling fully now.
He jumped and hugged me, excited I said yes.
We ended up having to pack that week, because Vladamir's flight back was in five days. Gretchen wasn't so sure about this, but I told him I'd keep in touch. After all, I would only be gone for four months. Lucifire couldn't have cared less, and Omar was just glad Lucifire wasn't the one leaving. I felt bad leaving Gretchen behind, but I had more important things on my mind.
We took a private military plane to Russia, which was a cool flight considering the plane was a lot nicer and roomier than a normal plane. The only passengers were Vladamir, me, the pilot and copilot. He said when we arrived there would be generals waiting to greet us, and they knew who I was. He explained to them I was the missing experiment of my father, and they were glad to get to meet me. He told them I was not for testing, but for being the second leader.
I was so excited to get there, and almost too excited to not be able to fall asleep on the plane, but I did nonetheless, helping the trip there seem shorter. When we arrived, Vladamir woke me up and told me to let him to the talking, considering the men here didn't know as much english as he did. We stepped off the plane and he greeted two men dressed in uniform with a salute. They exchanged words in russian and then he turned to me, motioning me to follow. We walked into a big building, which I assumed was the military base. Three soldiers came up to us, saluted Vladamir, and then took our things to our rooms. Vladamir explained to me that he and I had connected rooms. There was a door in between each room which led to the other, so he was always nearby if I needed him.
We were taken to Vladamir's office, where there were two uniforms folded neatly on the desk. One had Vladamir's name on it, and the other had mine. I walked over and admired it, liking the gold and grey colors. Vladamir told me to go try it on, which I did without hesitation. I went next door to my room and I put on the uniform, which fit perfectly. It was a dark grey, with gold buttons running down it. I had a gold belt that held it closer to my waist, and The shoulder pads were a yellow, with the new military logo and it had gold swirls and stripes on it. I looked like I was ready to go to war, and I loved it. Vladamir knocked on the door, and I opened it to reveal him in his uniform. His was black, and similar to mine accept his shoulder pads had a commander logo mixed with the communist one. He looked completely different, like you could never tell he was a sweet, gay man. He looked serious, and his scar made him look scary almost. He smiled at me.
"You look professional." He said. I nodded a 'thank you' and he explained to me that he would start training me tomorrow, and I could use today for rest and getting to know my way around. He said he would announce our arrival tomorrow morning, and I wouldn't see him for most the rest of the day because he had a lot of things to catch up on.
