Madara was about to turn off the bed lamp when our daughter burst into the room.

'Daddy! Mummy~y~y~!' she cried, her small feet pattering across the laminated flooring. Madara leapt off the bed and was by her side in an instant.

'DADDY!' She wailed, slamming into him as she wrapped her short arms around his neck.

'What's wrong, Kana?' I slid off my bed and knelt down, stroking her hair lightly.

She turned her head towards me.

'Mummy mummy.. Tell Daddy... Tell Dad-dy n-not -to - to-go!' she pleaded, choking on tears.

Madara and I looked at each other in puzzlement.

'Sweetie, Daddy is not going anywhere,' Madara assured her gently, patting her back.

'No No No! Daddy is going to a cave to find a BIG UGLY Monster and leave me and mummy behind! Don't go Daddy! Don't do this to me and mummy!' she screamed clinging onto Madraa tightly.

His eyes met mine once more, and I saw the same confusion reflected in his orbs.

'Awww cupcake... 'Madara started, reciprocating the tight hug. 'Daddy will never do such a thing. It's just a dream, a nightmare, that's all. '

'No! You don't know! It's real! You shouted and hit Mummy, and said you hated us, that - that we were in your way... And then... And then... You stomped out w-with scary knives... And then... And then... I-I clung onto your leg b-but you kicked me aside and - and- and- I ran after you, Daddy! B-but you never stopped walking. You never once looked back and - and-' Kana's breathing got rapid as she struggled to describe her nightmare, only to have her words dissolving into a crescendo of wails.

Madara and I smiled, our eyes softening at this adorable sight. Our baby princess, distressed over the perceived reality of her own overactive imagination.

Madara planted a kiss on her wet cheek. 'There there...' he patted her head, soothing her. 'Daddy loves you too much to ever do that, sweetie. You'll be the last person I hurt in the WHOLEE WIDDEE WURLD~~' he sang.

Kana shook her head violently. 'No! You'll leave us! I'm sure!'

'There, Kana... It was a nightmare, okay? Its not real. Its your mind playing tricks on you.' I swept a loose strand of curl behind her ear. 'Like that time, remember? You dreamt that there was a monster under your bed -'

'There WAS a monster!'

'O-Okay... But when we peered under your bed, there was nothing right? It's your imagination, ne?'

'No it was there, mummy. But Daddy s-scared it away.' she corrected me solemnly, hiccupping.

I cast Madara a quick slide glance. Going along with her had always been his style.

'Kana sweetie...' Madara turned her to face him. 'I love you okay? What you just said... It will never ever ever ever happen. I will never bear to see you or mummy cry, okay? Do you believe me?'

Kana unclasped herself from him, rubbing her eyes as she clutched her toy rabbit.

'Really? Really Daddy?' she asked, her large brown eyes boring into his. The last of her tears escaped her eye.

'Of course, sweetheart.' he wiped her tears gently, stroking her cheek.

'Promise? Promise to never leave me and mummy?'

'Yes, I promise. To be with you and mummy forever.'

'Forever?'

'Forever.'

'Pinky promise...' she held out her tiny pinky.

'Pinky promise.' Madara hooked his finger into hers.

'Feeling better now?' I asked.

Kana sniffed and smiled.

'Mummy! Hug hug!' she flung her arms wide. I gave her a big bear hug and cuddled her, smelling her hair. My baby. I would regret to have her grow up one day. Madara smiled and hugged the both of us close. And for a while, we stayed like this, giving our daughter all the comfort and assurance she needed.

'Daddy.. Mummy... Can we sleep together tonight?' her tiny voice broke the comfortable silence.

'Of course sweetie!'

'Why not, honey?'

Madara and I replied in unison.

We lifted her onto the bed and let her climb into the sheets. It was not long before she drifted into a blissful sleep between us, snoring lightly.

'Ne, Madara. Did you watch Naruto in front of her again?'

Madara coughed lightly. 'Yeah I guess...'

I could imagine him ruffling his mane with that sheepish smile on his face.

'Haish.. Maybe you shouldn't watch such stuff when she's around next time. She brought imagination to a whole new level. About you finding ten tails.'

Madara chuckled. 'Hai hai...'

We snuggled close, with our daughter safely in our arms, her face so serene and innocent. My heart melted at the sight of her just sleeping so sweetly. I saw Madara gazing fondly at her, ever so gentle and loving.

He reached over and slung his arm over the both of us. 'Thank you. For giving me such an angel.'

I blushed. 'And thank you for giving me my dream family.' I replied.

Madara craned his neck, planting a soft kiss on my forehead. 'Love you, honey. Sweet dreams. '

'Sweet dreams, Mada.'
