I can't remember if this was a dream I had when I was a little kid or if this was really a part off the Batman tv show from 1966 but I wanted to put it on here because it was interesting.

The day I almost died.

Dick Grayson expected his day to go normally, all of the insane criminals were locked up in Arkham and thanks to Bruce and himself there wasn’t anyone else foolish to go against the law. He fell back on the couch with some popcorn and started flipping channels contently before a newspaper fell onto his lap.

“What’s this?” He asked while looking up at Alfred.

“You might want to read the front page.”

Dick turned over the paper and scanned it over before groaning. “Can’t Bruce take him down on his own?”

“Bruce has to run Wayne Industries. Besides I recall you whining on more than one occasion about how you never get to go solo.”

“I don’t whine.” Dick muttered but got up anyway. “I’ll go stop him, it said the logging industry right?”

“I do believe so.” Alfred replied before going back to his job of keeping the house clean.

Dick put on his Robin suit and climbed onto his motorcycle before driving off to the docks, maybe if he put Riddler back into Arkham then he could go back to watching his TV shows before Bruce came home and made him train. He took the back way there to avoid unwanted attention and stopped in front of the logging industry but didn’t see anything that would indicate Riddler was here let alone anyone else. Robin got off his bike to look around anyway, Riddler loved to leave clues about his plot but that psycho knew how to stay hidden when he wanted to.

Robin found what he was looking for in the corner of a window, a green question mark. He broke through the glass and jumped inside before landing lightly on his feet and looking around cautiously, nothing moved and nothing was set off to trap him. Of course that didn’t make Robin feel any safer, as Riddler had read his thoughts a green light appeared from within the piles of logs in various stages of being cut up. Robin followed it slowly, constantly checking to make sure he wasn’t being stalked up on from behind. His one mistake was looking back too often and for too long.

Robin jumped as he turned back around before entering the lighted area, in front of him Riddler twirled his cane and smirked. “Where’s the Bat at Little Bird?”

“I don’t need him to take out you.”

“Fine, then tell me. What is brown, red, and won’t be flying much longer?”

Robin ducked the first blow but Riddler got in a lucky hit with his cane that sent the Boy Wonder stumbling into some logs. Enigma took advantage of his advantage and used his cane to whack him in the head until he was unconscious.

“The answer is Robin.” Riddler laughed.

Robin woke up and saw a green light shinning in his face; Riddler came into view and blocked the light before prodding him to his feet. Robin glared at him and rose unsteadily, noticing his bonds for the first time. Once he was standing Riddler led him over to one of the machines the workers would use to cut wood, Robin stopped limping in that direction and tried to break through the bonds. Riddler rapped him on the shoulder with his cane and prodded him in the spine; Robin glared at him and was about to kick him but lost his balance.

“You won’t get away with this.” Robin shouted as Riddler forced him to lay on the conveyor belt and bound his legs so he wouldn’t be able to stand anymore.

Riddler held a microphone to his face. “Tell Batman where you are and what I’m going to do.”

Robin kept his mouth shut and Riddler sighed. “I guess we just get to video tape it for him.”

The conveyor belt lurched to life and Robin once again tried to break free or roll off, nothing worked. He could hear the blade’s whirling growing louder and soon could feel the blade beginning to cut into his hair, and then just as it began to cut into his skull it stopped. Robin didn’t move, his teeth were clenched to prevent himself from screaming although he knew he probably had been. Riddler let out loud insults but was quickly cut off as Batman knocked him out. Robin saw his mentor walk over to him and cut the wires that bound him, when he started picking up Robin his partner let out a short yelp of pain before clenching his teeth again.

“Lucky for you Alfred told me where you went as soon as I got home.” Batman growled out of concern. “Come on the police will be here soon, you need medical help.”

Robin nodded slightly before passing out, he would recover from this, it would leave a scar of course but he would recover. And now he knew that he still had a long way to go before he could go solo.
