Day 7 - Bakugou's Birthday!/Free Space

For the first year that he had traveled with the dragon shifter, Katsuki had completely ignored his birthday. Kirishima had been none the wiser, and he had finally gotten what he'd always wanted for his birthday.

Peace.

It was a normal day like any other and he had absolutely loved it.

Then he had made the mistake of bringing the shifter to his hometown. His mother had made a big deal about missing his birthday, and so had Kirishima once he found out. Which meant that the Scales-for-Brains was going to do something for him for his birthday. Which was today.

Fuck.

He had expected to be woken up early to be dragged off on some sort of “birthday adventure” Kirishima had planned. What he hadn't expected was to be left alone and allowed to sleep in.

He had awoken to find some porridge left out for him (with berries, which he had to admit was pretty nice) but no matter where he looked he could not find Kirishima. So, he took advantage of the quiet and went to mending his clothes.

It was midday when Kirishima came back, mostly dry but with wet hair, and a full satchel hanging off his shoulder.

“Hey, Baku! How would you feel about some hiking? I found a really nice spot about two hours away, it has a lake and everything!”

Katsuki blinked in surprise when the shifter didn't even mention his birthday, but nodded nonetheless, “Yeah, sure.”

They packed up camp, it's better to camp by a body of water anyway, and set off. It took a lot out of Kirishima to transform, so if they weren't fighting or if their trip wasn't long he traveled to keep in his human form.

The hike to the spot wasn't anything special, they talked and pointed out little things about their surroundings. Like Kirishima saw a tree that looked like it was flexing and Katsuki saw some squirrels fighting.

It wasn't that different when they got to the spot either. They went swimming in the lake, caught some fish, ate lunch. Katsuki was beginning to the ink the dragon had forgotten about his birthday altogether. He thought he'd be happier about that.

“Hey, Baku!”

Katsuki looked up from where he had been washing his cape in the lake to see Kirishima waving at him from in the nearby woods.

“Yo! There's something here I wanna show you!” The shifter called, trying to wave him over.

With a roll of his eyes, Katsuki gets up and walks over to follow him. It was nearing sunset, he had to stick close so he wouldn't lose his way. When he was close enough Kirishima grabbed his hand and, feeling generous because of his birthday, Katsuki let him keep it there.

He looked over to the shifter suspiciously, “Where the hell is this thing you wanted to show me?”

Kirishima grinned at him, flashing sharp teeth that always made Katsuki's heart skip, and pulled open some vines that were in front of them, “Tadaaa!”

The vines revealed a cliffside picnic that Katsuki couldn't believe Kirishima had taken the time to spread out for him.

One of their spare blankets was laid out on the grass a foot away from the cliff and a basket of wild strawberries was sitting on it. The view from the cliffside was breathtaking, and the oranges and golds lit the lake at the bottom like wildfire.

“Happy birthday Katsuki,” Kirishima said, smiling softly, “I knew you wouldn't want something big so I went for a small gesture instead.”

“Small?” He choked out, laughing slightly in disbelief.

He had thought that he didn't want to celebrate his birthday because people make such a big deal out of it. Yet when he thought Kirishima had forgotten it he was upset. Then as he looked out at the cliffside he realized he had just wanted someone to take the time to make it personal.

And Kirishima thought it was too small?

Katsuki shook his head and decided he'd show him just how big this was.

The kiss was short, chaste, and to the point, and Kirishima was still frozen in shock for a full minute after. In that time Katsuki had fully decided he was going to jump off the cliff in front of them, and he was just about to.

Until Kirishima grabbed him by the shoulders and smashed their lips together.

Katsuki gasped into the kiss and the shifter wasted no time in claiming the inside of his mouth. He melted at the heat of his tongue, eyes fluttering closed and palms coming to rest on smoothly scaled cheeks.

The evening was already hot enough but Katsuki felt as if he were on fire as they tasted one another. He ran his tongue over Kirishima’s teeth, making the other boy shudder. After a while they pulled apart, forehead resting together and both panting slightly.

“Katsuki,” Kirishima began with a grin, “Do you have any idea how long I've wanted to do that?”

“Probably about as long as I have, Eijirou,” Katsuki returned with his own, sharper smile. He then turned away and started dragging him by the hand towards the picnic setup.

“Now come on, before my birthday picnic goes bad.”

Ahhhgh I was able to do it all ON TIME and with a musical whooo.

Speaking of, today is the last night and I both hate and love it. I'll finally get some sleep but I had so much fun I'm sad it's almost over ;-;.
