Part Five
A few days and a lot of tests later, a different doctor came in and said, shaking my hand, "Hello, Miss Woodlock, I'm Dr. Foster. I'm filling in for Dr. Ashford today." He continued, "Your tests are back. Mr. Johnson's DNA was not a match. Mr. Alexzander Willow was a match. He has been arrested and has no bail, but you and Anika will be put under protective custody. Your baby is perfectly healthy." He handed me a stack of papers. "Fill out these forms and then you can go. The officers are waiting to take you to a safe house. Goodbye and good luck, miss." He left nodding at Derrick and Anika on his way out.
I signed the papers and we went outside we were greeted by the officers that would escourt us. We had met them the day before. Their names were Erick McNeal and Angelo Mandez. We had gotten to know them a little when I had been in the hospital. Angelo was the younger of the two. He was 25, he didn't have a family yet but wanted to. Erik was 40 and lived near by with his wife, May, his daughter, Kassidy, 17, and his son, Aaron, 14. We climbed in to their car, they drove us to the safe house. It was just like any other house in the small quiet neighborhood. Angelo explained that it was placed here on purpose to keep it hidden. Erik went inside to check the house, while we stood outside with Angelo.
We stayed at the house for a long time and it was very uneventful there. By the time the lawers got their case together for the trial I was nearly eight months pregnant and getting really big.
It was really hard to face Alex in court and tell my story, but I stuck to the truth and gave details. I could tell the jury felt sorry for me and the lawer said later that that helped the case. I broke down cryingon the stand during part of it. Anika also had a hard time during the trial. The prosacuter showed the DNA test which matched the spern from the rape kit to Alex's DNA. The jury found him gulty on two accounts of statchtory rape, meaning he was an adult and raped a minor. The judge sentenced him to fifty years in jail, twenty-five for Anika and twenty-five for me. He also has to pay all the hospital bills from during my pregnancy.
Ashley addmitted to knowing about what had been happening and lost custody of Anika and Lucas. She was charged with child endangerment and put in jail for one year. My friends were shocked to find out what had been happening and were eager to support me. (They also volenteered to babysit after the baby was born.)
A month later, I delivered a healthy seven pound three ounce baby girl. We named her Destiny Hope Johnson. Hope was my mother's middle name. I moved into an appartment with Derrick near his college and started school there.
