Kay's POV
Smile exists the room and I am left alone with my thoughts- How exactly did I get injured?
I try to remember but my head starts to hurt intensely so I just give up recalling any memories.
I look around the room and notice couple flowers in a vase across my bed and a small note- 'ahh.. of course Smile leaves when I need' I sigh and try getting up- taking all the needles out of my body, cringing at the sensation.
I sit up at the side of my bed, trying to wrap my head around the idea of standing up but wince as I slowly balance my foot on the floor, putting some weight onto it.
I guess the idea of getting up and walking over to get the note is not going to happen
I sit back down on my bed and see my bloody jacket hanging on the stool near the desk with the vase, 'it's really bloody.. what the hell happened?' I ask myself and try to look around for clues besides the jacket. After a while the nurse enters my room- she smiles and takes a deep breath "I guess you are awake- that's a relief" she says as she walks over to me and her expression changes from sweet and smiling to a worried look- "Why aren't you hooked up to the monitors?" She looks at me with a concerned look " you didn't try to leave in your state, did you?" she sighs.
"What? oh, no.. I was just trying to walk over to the desk across the room to get the note", she takes a moment to process my answer and turns around- "oh, well dear, you could've just called someone with the button on your bed" she shows me all the buttons on the right side of my bed and gives a small chuckle "now that you know that, would you like me to get the note for you?" she looks at me, awaiting my answer.
"Yes please, I would appreciate it" I answer and give her a small smile, she turns around and walks over to the desk- glancing at the flowers for a bit before picking up the note and walking back to me, she hands me the note and smiles 'she smiles a lot despite being a military nurse' I think to myself and mutter a small thank you under my breath as I take the note from her.
"Someone must really worry about you and wish you well" she talks as she unwraps the bandages on my forehead "it's very rare here for soldiers to receive such beautiful flowers"
I try to glance up at her but her hands slightly apply pressure on my head- indicating for me to stay the way I was, looking down.
"What makes you say that? I've seen a lot of soldiers get flowers and wishing well cards while visiting the hospital couple of times" she looks down at me and stops what she is doing, "yes but, no one got these rare type of flowers before- could swear they are almost from another universe. Only seen these flowers in books and movies I was reading" she says as she continues to unwrap my bandage.
I think for a moment before the realization hits me- these flowers are from Aria.
I quickly open the note I was holding in my hands all this time and notice her small signature at the bottom of the note, her neat and royal handwriting- she actually took time writing me a note, I look at it with a blur for couple of moment before the nurse coughed to gain my attention. I look up at her confused,
"Um.. would you like me to read that for you?I mean, not to be rude, you just seem like you cannot read whats written- perhaps the head injury affected your ability to comprehend certain stuff around you" she says politely, I glance at the note once more and look back at her "no, I can read, just was.. surprised. That's all" I return a smile to her as I look down at the note again.
"Well then, I would need you to cooperate with me. I need to unwrap all of your bandages in order to check on the wounds and then apply fresh and clean ones so your wounds don't get infected" she smiles and awaits my response.
I take a look around how many bandages I have and nod "sure. Go ahead" I answer and she proceeds to unwrap each bandage, check the wound, applies an antiseptic with a cloth and wraps the injury again, repeating it for each wound I have on my body.
After she is done she nods and takes all the old dirty bandages and asks if I need anything else- I just reply with a simple no and thank her for her assistance.
After she leaves I look down at the note and lie back on my bed, simply staring at it- not knowing if I am ready to read whats written inside.
'is she mad at me..'
'is she worried sick..'
'is she going to visit me..'
I take a deep breath and bring the note closer so I can read.' My dear,
I've heard of your injury in the small exchange of fire between both clans and
hope you will recover fast enough to come visit me soon.
I miss you lots and wish you well.
- Aria '
That's it? Why did it seem much longer for me?
Is my head seriously that injured that I cannot comprehend stuff just by glancing at them?
I read the note again and don't realize my smile but then I feel some sort of... guilt.
I left her worried- I should've been more careful.
I look at my wrist- 'hooked up to the machines again, great'.
I feel my eyelids start to get heavy and I give into the deep slumber.
