Your eyes shift from word to word as you read what is written on the book you get from the shelf. You are currently reading a book inside the library. You prefer this kind of place especially its tranquil ambience.
You are focusing on the story you are reading. The main character is in danger so you want to find out what will her savior would do to spare her.
A pair of hands covers your eyes. You are distracted by this sudden action.
“Make a guess now” a voice says playfully, but you have no time for play, you’re not in the mood. You are both inside the library so make a single noise both of you will be kicked out. You don’t want to wait the librarian to warn you, so as soon as possible he should stop.
“Hush, please… I have no time for this, Chen” you say lamely. He uncovers your eyes and sits across the table.
“I just want to say something I’ve been keeping for years.” he says. You were curious but you keep your attention still on the book. The story is almost in the end so you don’t want to be bothered until you reach the ending.
“Let’s just talk after class, I’m still doing something important” you reply to him. You glance at him, he seems powerless. In every time you’ve been together, he is always cheerful, happy and positive. But now seeing him like this affects you so much.
As you said, he waits you until your last class dismissed. He’s waiting for you in the corridor.
“Is there something that ails you?” you ask him, worrying. You we’re surprised when he hugged you. You feel a bit awkward inside his arms.
“Chen? Wh…what are you doing?” you stammer. You’ve been best friends for almost four years and this is the first time he did this to you. But you think that this is just a normal gesture between best friends.
“Hush. This time I want you to stay still. I want you to hear who’s name beating my heart out.” He says as he hugs you even tighter.
Your heart beats a little faster and irregularly. It beats so fast that you are almost panting but you are not afraid at all. You don’t feel any harm inside your chest. There’s nothing to be alarmed about.
“Wh…what do you mean?” you manage to response, but in a stammering voice.
“I…I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do that” he says when he realized what he just did.
“It’s ok Chen. Tell me.” you say smiling. You want him to be comfortable around you. You want him to feel awkward. After all, you are best friends.
“This is not easy to say but I’ll be brave enough to let you know how I really feel and what’s going on inside me, so…” he pauses for a while and stares at you with so much sincerity, with a serious tone of voice.
You are not reacting as of you are waiting what he will do next. You didn’t expect him that he’s been admiring a girl. For the first time he told you that he’s trying to confess to that girl despite of his jerk side.
“Who’s the lucky girl, my friend?” you ask, teasing him. He turned beet red. He’s blushing.
“Actually, she’s always by my side and never leave me no matter what” he says. Your imagination wanders. You think that he’s not even socializing with others and choosing to be with you most of the time. You didn’t know that he’s up to something that you never knew.
“Really? Can you tell me who is she?” you say, waiting for his answer.
“Ummm… She’s…” he is hesitating so you pursue him to spill it out.
“Please, I won’t say it to her, just this time Chen” you say impatiently.
“She’s…”
“Who?”
“She’s”
“Oh c’mon Chen! Don’t try to sound like a broken disk” you say.
“Ok! It was you all along”
