Chapter two
I came to a stop in front of the beach house, before me stood a two story wooden house with a porch around the whole house. The house was painted a soft blue colour with the window frames painted in white. The little garden in the front was freshly cut grass; we have a gardener who comes in once a week to do the up keeping. There is also a two door garage for the cars and our beach stuff, mom doesn't like it when we get sand in the house so dad made sure that we had place for all the stuff that went with us to the beach.
I looked at the clock on my dashboard to see that it was just after five pm. smiling at myself knowing I arrived around the time I wanted to. I had only made stops to fill the Jeep with fuel and to use the restroom. Before getting out I send a quick text to my mom and dad letting them know I have arrived safely.
Leaving the Jeep in the driveway I got out grabbing some of my bags on the way and also the keys to the house. I made my way up the steps and just as I was about to put the key in the slot the door opened revelling my very happy looking grandmother.
"Hi grandma!" letting my bags drop to the ground I gave her a tight hug.
"Welcome back Skyler! I'm so glad you came to visit for a while!" you could see that Gran was truly glad to have me here, at least one member of my family was happy to have me at the beach house.
"Yeah I just needed to get out of the house for a bit." I smiled up at her; I was truly relieved to have gotten away for a bit.
Gran stepped out of the way so I could go into the house.
"I'm just going to put these few bags in my room and get the others; I'll meat Gran for tee in the kitchen when I'm done." I told her already heading up the stairs.
"Sure." I glanced over my shoulder seeing Gran head in to the kitchen.
My room is the first room on your left; I had painted a big S in purple on my room door one year making it stand out against the cream walls of the hall. Stepping in my room the walls are the same colour as the hall's but there is small purple flowers added as a border. My bed is on the left and I have a couch under the main window that has a view of the ocean.
I placed my bags down my bed and I just fall on my back on the bed. It was like I was floating on a cloud, I loved that part of my bed you could have had the worse day and when you go to sleep all your problems would just disappear.
I got up walking back to the Jeep to get the last of my bags and placing my bags on the bed so that I could unpack them later.
As I was walking down the stair I heard Gran open the door and give a very big welcome to the person on the other side. When I reached the bottom of the stairs I saw Gran hugging Dustin. He was here on the front steps of my beach house more than two days drive away from his university. I saw him at the end of summer when he was driving off to college. He couldn't even make it for Christmas as he took extra classes over the break. I had a gift planned for him and at the end I send it through the mail. He sends me a gift also but it wasn't the same as having him with us, our families are very close we spend most holidays together. It was really weird seeing him here now, spending a whole year without my best friend.
I was frozen on the bottom step when Gran let Dustin in to the house. Dustin spotted me first and when he saw me he got a big smile on his face as he had just seen his favourite person in the whole entire world. He rushed up to me picking me up in a hug spinning action, turning me around; I regained control over my body and hugged him back. I truly did miss having him around.
He placed me back on my feet still holding me in his arms hugging me to his chest, it felt good to be hugging him again, I missed that so much.
I pulled back a bit from him so that I could look at him. "What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"I came to spend some time with my best friend! Or am I not aloud to?" he looked so happy to be here that even the part of me that me that was a bit mad at him for some odd reason could not chase him away. He looked at me with eyes filled with hope that I just nodded my head and have him another hug. He whispered thanks while he laid his head on mine.
Gran called for us from the kitchen, Dustin gave me one last hug then taking me hand in his much bigger one leading me to the kitchen. It wasn't odd to hold his hand I was use to it. In the few weeks before he went off to college he use to take my hand while we were walking or while we were watching TV he would hold my hand and intertwine our fingers. He never said anything when he did it he just kept on with what he was doing, I liked it when he did it, and it made me feel special in a way even though it must have not meant anything to him.
Gran gave me a weird look when she saw us two holding hands; I just ignored her it didn't mean anything so she could keep staring.
"Lets have some tee and then Dustin can tell us all about his college life." Gran looked eager to hear about the year he had, I on the other had wasn't so eager. Dustin pulled me to the island that is in the middle of the kitchen so we could sit next to Gran.
I wasn't in the mood to listen to his wonderful college live without me so before he could even start I suggested that I would make us some beef lasagne, it would be a dish that would hold my attention away from them talking, lucky for me Gran had stocked the fridge before I got here.
Dustin have me an annoyed look when I stood up and let his hand drop, I just didn't feel like listening to his story.
While making dinner I tried to keep my focus on the food but I would still hear them taking, like last year when he had just started college a girl who was taking the same classes as him would flirt with him when they were in class in the end he asked her what should he do to make her stop flirting with him he had made it clear that he wasn't interested. She said her friends dared her to get him to kiss her and that all the flirting was just because of the dare, so he gave her a kiss the next day in front of her friends just to get her of off his back.
I faked laughed with Gran just to make them belief that it had no effect on me but it actually did. For some strange reason I was jealous of a girl that I didn't even know! Yeah sure when I was like 13 I had a small crush on him and I hoped that he would like me the same way but that crush soon faded with time.
He told some more stories after that one but non made me react like that again, I soon began to really laughed with them and it was good to hear him talking about the new friends he had made but I also realise that those who he hanged out with he didn't share as much with them as he had with me. It made me feel like no one would replace me in his life.
