...While the door closes behind me, I notice Chief Rimbly walking up to me & asking, " June, you sure do have a strong grip on that envelope, girl." He lets out a chuckle, causing my eyes to avert Alexander's. As I hand Chief Rimbly my envelope with my scores in it, I can feel Alexander's eyes on me, and my heart begins to race; not just from Alexander's eyes on me but because of my test scores.
As we wait in anticipation, all I hear is my heart pounding in my chest and the pulsation in my ears. I'm watching Chief Rimbly look over my scores and loudly announces my score to the ENTIRE office by repeating, " SHE GOT A 94!" Over and over and over. Yet, all I see is Alexander rushing over to me & hugging me; making me lose my breath. Also making me realize that the whole Navy office is witnessing this little scene that I had no idea about, other than hugging back & smiling in relief. As Alexander lets go of me, he says, " Now you can be whatever your cute heart wants to be, princess." my heart flutters when he calls my heart cute and me princess.
He notices and comes closer to me but his lips lightly breathe on my ear as he whispers, " Just think, we can work together everyday for as long as we want my sweet princess." As he turns away to talk to Chief Rimbly, he also gets my envelop and in which I'm assuming Alexander is going to help me pick my job... which I think; being a medic does sound kind of badass.
* Present : 2020 *
" Babe I don't see my seabag, I'm hoping it didn't get lost... like how does someone lose a military issued bag?" I say to Alexander as he sees me becoming more frantic and annoyed about my seabag; then it comes into view on the conveyor belt. I let out relief-filled sigh and rush into the crowd of people huddled over the edge of the conveyor belt.
After pushing my way through, I finally reach my bag and yank it off the conveyor belt. And after adjusting it on my shoulder, I notice people are looking at Alexander & I and all they do is stop, stand where they are, and the next thing I know is... they are all clapping and cheering. I'm assuming they are welcoming us " back home" by in reality I'm just here to go through job-training. I, at least thought of it as being a cute gesture from the Texans & others who were all around us.
But now the Alexander & I are walking towards the sliding doors to where our future starts; mine more than his. I can feel the anxious & nervous somersaults that are going on in my low abdomen. And that's when I think to myself, if Alexander can do this and put up with the bullshit he went through with me, then I can do it & maybe even better... hopefully.
