Yeah, but why her?

"Have you seen the new girl?" asked my sister no one in particular.

I instantly stopped playing.

"Which one? Be more specific." asked Logan in a flat voice.

"The one that hangs out with Chloe Lenox and her group."

Of course she decided to ask about Winnie. She wanted to know as much as she could and be subtile about it at the same time.

"Yeah, she is hot." answerd Matt.

I had to roll my eyes at that.

We were all currently hanging out in Matt's room after the day full of obligations. It was something we did often because our schedules left us no other choice. This is usually our 'rest time'.
Today Lexi and Ellie decided to paint their nails, Logan is working on some new project on his laptop, Matt is laying around somewhere and my instrument of choice for this evening is guitar.

"I heard girls at practice today talking about her. They said she plays some instrument. Apparently she's good at it to." said Ellie.

"Of couse she is good, there is a reason she is here.",said Logan, completely uninterested.

"I think we all know that is not the truth.", was my response.
Not everyone is here because they are good, but that is not something people around here talk about much. The thing is, desperate parents build some of the best libraries, labs and recreation centres. So why not use it? Nice sums of money sometimes pass too.
So yes, Academia appreciates talent, but worships money.

"Since when do you care about new people Lexi?" asked Logan out of the blue.

I held my breath waiting for my sister to answer. I don't think she would share with our friends. But still.

"It is rare that someone new comes to Academia without going to St. Clair Highschool so I wanted to know more."

"Yeah, but why her? It is rare but it happens once in a while. There is at least a dozen of new people that came to Academia this year."

Logan and his questions.

I wondered how would Lexi get out of this one.

"Because she is hard to miss. She is hanging out with pink haired Chloe and your matematician girl, after all."

Mention Imogen. Good job Lexi. Attack is the best defence for a reason.

I heard Logan stop typing on his laptop at that moment.

"She is not mine."

"Of course she is not. Man, I don't think she would have anything with you. Or with any other male for that mater. She is so stiff. I think she is gay, that must be the reason why you're always so angry and... Ouch, don't throw your phone at me. Shit, that hurt. I was just saying that..."

"Do you want me to throw my laptop at you Matt?" Logan interrupted Matt.

"No, once was enough, thank you very much."

We all laughed at that.

"Now that we are talking about desperate people", continued Matt, "Darleene is dead set on getting back with you again. Probably because she wants to provoke Lexi. "

I couldn't help but groan.

What Darleene wants, Darleene gets. It is common knowledge arond here. Her looks help her in that a lot. She is one stubborn bitch. Her temper tantrums are forgiven mostly because she is good at spreading her legs when it is needed. That is how we started our relationship in the first place. At the beginning it was just sex. After some time she became clingy, jealous. But the sex was good, blow jobs even better and her company tolerable, for a time.
