--Day 3

My next patient is 5 years old, it is very early in the morning, is not even 5 o'clock yet, and his mum is very nervous explaining he fell down from his bunk bed, and she wakes up with him crying.

He has a full head of very black hair falling over his beautiful brown eyes. I carefully removed his temp plaster to access the wound.

I calmed his mother down, ensuring it will only need a few stitches, and he would be fine.

I apply a local anaesthetic, he does not complain.

-"You are very brave!" - I tell him. He nodded a bit.

-"am I going to have a big scare?" - he asked me

-"no, only a little one, and just for a while, it should fade in time" - I explain to him

-"unh" - he sighed in disappointment, kicking his legs

-"may I ask you why do you want a big scar?"

-"so I would look just like Cole?"

-"who is Cole?" - I asked thinking it might be his big brother or an uncle, but no...

-"Cole is a Ninja, he is the black one, the earth Ninja." He explains in excitement

-"and why is Cole your favourite?"

-"because he is the strongest one of all" - he pauses - "and he doesn't have a girlfriend" - he sticks his tongue out and makes a disgusting face.

I let go a laugh, feeling sorry for Cole. And he carries on

-"my big sister said she will marry Cole, but I don't think so, she is stupid"

-"Lui don't talk like that about your sister!"

-"Sorry, mom!" - he apologised to his mother

-"ok, Lui we finished!" - I said that opening my cupboard to get him a sweet, then I spot a brand new box of Ninja plasters, I open to check if was there any Cole inside before announcing to Lui. I grin in delight to see all ninja colours.

-"and look at what I have here for you?"- I showed him a lollipop "That's for being so brave"

And next I show him Cole plaster -" and that is for being a NINJA" - I said that in a very eloquent voice.

-"look, mom, look, it is Cole, look how strong he is, just like me" - Lui jump up and down in excitement showing the plaster to his mom - "would you please put that on for me Doctor?" - he asked me politely, he didn't even care for his lollipop.

I smile at him and put the plaster on. I offered him to choose another one so he could change later, and he just picks another Cole.

As Lui leaves the treatment room, he hi-5s me screaming "Ninja GO!", I go with him, screaming together, he runs alternating with twisters, almost hitting the corridor walls, his mother goes alter him, begging him to stop before getting himself hurt again.
