┗━━┛clutched onto my bag that was falling off of my right shoulder as I walked up the school steps. I knew I was late, so there was no point in rushing. Mr. Zhong wouldn't give me the chance to walk past the late book even if I made it a second after the bell rang.

As I walked through the school doors, I already heard the guffaws of the well known jocks, the handsomests of the handsomes— the football team. They were always loud and rowdy— no one had the balls to mess with neither of them because of the treatment they got. I guess talent can take you a long way, even if you're a complete prick.

I was always taught by my mother to never judge somebody until you get to know them.

I haven't gotten to know much of them but I've seen what some of them done like Jack, and birds of a feather flock together.

After I swiped my ID card, I sped to my first period class that was on the third floor. Once I walked in, all eyes were on me. That's because it's at least my 4th time being last this week.

I took a deep breath as I picked up a pencil to sign the late book. My mother won't be so happy about it. I then made my way to the back of the room, where I spotted a smirking Lauren and Skailar, along with an unhappy Hayes.

I mouthed 'hey' to the two and nudged Hayes to see if he was okay. He didn't bother to look up so I started to get worried. "What's wrong with him?" I asked the two.

"Long story short, he's going to have a step father." Lauren says. "Moving in..." Skailar added. I thought back on all the times Hayes came complaining to us about hating his mother's boyfriend because he didn't like the idea of his father getting 'replaced'. We've tried convincing him over and over again that that wasn't going to happen, but I came to a conclusion that there's only a little amount we can do to make him feel better.

"Wait, does that mean that guy on the football team will be his.." "Yes, my brother.." I heard Hayes's voice say. It was lower than usual and weary. "It's not so-" "He's a fuckin' asshole." He cut me off. After my state of shock passed, I pulled out my notebook and began writing down what was on the board.

"Brina, don't take it personal. I'll talk to him." Skailar says from behind me. I wasn't taking it personal at all. I know how it feels for you to see your parent happy and get worried about the next to move in the house. My mother's been single for most of my life, and I trip out about any little guy friend she brings over.

The bell rang and the kids began to spring out of their seats, rushing towards the exit. I looked around quite surprised, not knowing how late I actually got to school. I put my book back into my bag, before following the kids out of the room.

I walked to Lauren when I seen Skailar trying to comfort Hayes by the locker. "I'll see you later," I said as I leaned in for a hug. She returned one back and I began to make my way to my next class.

I was happier than usual because I'd get to see Dailyn. She had just came back from a two week vacation at her aunts back in Orlando, and everyone missed her like crazy. I nearly ran into class to spot her stuffing her mouth with a sandwich. She only saw me cause I began to laugh at her. "What?! I'm hungry," she laughed with me. We exchanged a hug, then I sat down besides her.

"Can we start the fucking lesson, Mrs?" I heard a familiar husky voice say in the back. I turned to see Jack and Dominic. Dominic looked uncomfortable for the most part, but I didn't bother finding out why. I wondered how he felt about his father marrying Hayes's mother.

I knew they didn't get along that well, but both of them are hurting in some way right now.

It's obvious.
