"Now class, can somebody calculate how many times Sabrina could be late in a week?" I heard a familiar voice say.
I rolled my eyes while I signed the late book. "I missed my ride, get over it." My eyes dilated once I realized I said that aloud. I didn't dare to turn back to see everyone's reaction. "Sabrina, would you step outside for a moment?" Mr. Zhong's voice boomed from behind me.
I lifted my chin up and walked outside. All you heard was the faint sound of my footsteps. I didn't mind the door slam I heard seconds after I arrived. He appeared in my face once I turned around. "Ye-" "Get over it?!" He whisper-yelled. "I didn't mean to—" "You know what I'm gonna mean? Calling your mother about this behavior, so you can say bye bye to your little dream car." He says and crosses his arms as he walked back up to the door.
I thought of the conversation my mother had with him about my responsibilities while I watched his receding back. "You can't ruin my life and hold a stupid grudge because your relationship with my mother didn't work out!"
I immediately regretted saying what I said after I seen his face. He took a step closer to me and pointed his fat, ashy finger in my face. "Listen, as your teacher it is my duty to let parents know how their children are doing in my class. What me and your mother had is done, over. But that has nothing... not one thing to do with how you're doing in my class. So I advise you to watch what you say, 'cause you're no longer off the hook."
He proceeded to walk away a second time and I didn't bother saying another word. I took a deep breath and dropped my bag as I ran my hand down my face. I really hope he won't call my mother about this.
After I built up the courage to open the class door, I walked to my seat as if nothing happened. People stared and I ignored.
I was already looking forward to this day ending. I have enough on my schedule.

"You need help with that?" I heard a husky voice from behind me ask. I put on a small smile and shook my head no at Jack as I turned around. "You sure? I got the best grades in the class." He answered.
"Yeah, 'cause you can't afford to sit out of a game." I whispered quietly to him. "Ouch."
"You're honest, I like that." He added.
"I'd like it if you left me alone so I can do my work." I replied to him. I heard shuffle noises and saw him coming near me from the corner of my eye. I wasn't surprised when he took a seat on my absent classmate's chair.
"C'mon, you're really struggling. This class isn't easy so let me help you." He said. I stared into his eyes to try and guess his intentions but I couldn't find anything. "Fine. How do you solve number six?" I asked as I pointed at my sheet.
He scoffed, "We both know I just wanted to sit next to you. We have a sub and I have no one to talk to— plus you smell really.. really sweet."
I couldn't hide the smile that was forming on my face. "Um, thank you." I said.
He began to lean in to my ear and I tensed up a bit. He noticed my behavior and chuckled, "Relax, I don't bite. What I want to bite right now is all the snacks in the vending machine. You want anything?" He whispered into my ear. I thought about it and took a glance around the class. The sub was busy handling a student in the back of the room and everyone else sat on their phones.
"Mhm. Get me skittles." I told him.
"You'd have to come get it yourself, princess." I rolled my eyes and got up with him. We ran out the class when the sub wasn't looking and into the staircase. "I can't believe I'm doing this with you," I say as I held onto the railing in support of skipping some steps. "I can't believe it either. Got the prettiest girl in the school to skip class with me." He says.
