"Let me get this straight." Changbin said, trying to process everything Felix and Hyunjin had told him. The two boys sat patiently at the cafeteria table, looking up at the older boy with big puppy eyes to win his favor. "You're telling me that Hyunjin met my friend Jisung and hated him as soon he met him? And now he's going to participate in the talent show because Jisung is doing it too?" The two nodded their heads vigorously, everything that the senior said was exactly what had happened. What was so hard to believe.
Changbin sighed, rubbing his face as he finally understood what was going on. "You're so stupid, how do you hate Jisung? He's literally the nicest guy in the universe, that boy can't even hurt a fly if his life depended on it. He's afraid of heights, man. Heights!" Hyunjin crossed his arms in defiance, not wanting to listen to Changbin's excuses for his friend. It didn't matter how "good" Jisung seemed to be. He hated him with a burning passion not even his dog can quell.
"What's happening here?" A voice spoke up, catching their attention. There stood Jeongin and Seungmin with lunch trays in hand and confused expressions on their faces. The two of them sat down at the same table as them, his step brother sliding a strawberry milk towards him. Hyunjin took it gratefully, practically stress drinking it. "Oh, are we talking about Hyunjin's hatred for that Han guy?" Jeongin questioned, forgetting all about the lunch he had gotten for himself.
Changbin sighed, nodding in response to the step brother's question. Seungmin tapped his fingers on the table, slurping loudly on the chocolate milk in his hands. "You can't just hate someone as soon as you meet them. You have to make an effort to get to know they're true personality before you decide you're going to dislike them that much." He explained, trying to scrap up any wisdom that he possible could.
Jeongin only snorted at his friends words. "That's how it was for me and Hyunjin once our parents got married. One look at Hyunjin and I wanted to choke him out. Plus! Daehwi doesn't like Hyunjin based on some random rumors you guys heard, and it's nothing like Hyunjin at all." Seungmin huffed, slurping even louder through the straw that was stabbed into his milk. With that out of the way, the younger brother cracked his knuckles and leaned over the table to him. "Anyways... what are we going to do for that talent show? The auditions are soon you know!"
Changbin's eyes widened in surprise, glancing between the two boys. "You're seriously trying out? And with Jeongin? Wow, you're a lot more determined that I thought... Jisung must have really set something off in you." He mumbled the last part to himself before taking a seat next to Hyunjin. "Well? What are you going to perform? It better be good because whatever Jisung is going to do, he's going to make sure people favor him. Plus you only have maybe another week until auditions."
Hyunjin thought about it for a second, unsure of how to answer. "I was so caught up in hating Jisung and swearing that I was going to beat him that I never thought of a song... I had all time last week but in between going over the notes in class, Jeongin's braces removal, and me just being distracted I never really thought about it." In the corner is his eyes he caught his younger sibling breaking out into a smile, a bright and beaming one without the metal bars confining them.
"Both of you are really good singers!" Felix exclaimed, his hands drumming on the table in excitement. "You can practically choose any song and it would be great! As long as it's not trot though. It's cute to see Jeongin do it but it's just plain embarrassing to watch you do it." Hyunjin smacked the boy in the back of the head, hissing at him for throwing the shade right through his heart. Felix only laughed, not taking back any of the words that escaped his mouth.
Jeongin frowned, resting his head in his hands. "What are we going to do then? We need a song to practice before the auditions roll around." The two fell silent as everyone tried to think of a song for the two of them. It had to be doable for the both of them, nothing that was too hard to learn the notes or lyrics too. And it definitely had to be better than whatever Han Jisung was going to bring to the table.
"I got it!" Changbin grinned, snapping his fingers as he stood up from his seat. Everyone's eyes turned towards the senior as he fumbled with his pockets. "I know you're kinda disappointed with your class president having a boyfriend, but I'm really close friends with him! Chan makes writes his own music, he could make you and Jeongin the perfect song for the talent show."
Hyunjin bit his lip, remembering Changbin's friend very clearly. He hadn't seen him around for awhile, or at least not in the open without his class president. He had kinda... avoided him as well. The boy felt slightly uncomfortable around Chan if he had to be honest. But that was just because of his withering feelings for the boy's girlfriend. "I don't know, Changbin. It would be nice and all but..."
"Don't tell me you haven't gotten over the class president." Felix groaned, rolling his eyes at him. "You cannot be serious! I told you to get over it! Changbin's friend could give you the chance to really best Jisung in the talent show. If you're going to give that up because of a girl then you've just hit the rock bottom of being the most pathetic person in the world."
Jeongin got up out of his seat, probably trying to get the Australian to back off of him. Before any words could be exchanged though, someone had interjected themselves into the conversation. "Looks like someone is about to rip someone's throat out over here. Is everything okay?" Hyunjin glanced up to see Jisung standing at the foot of their table, hands shoved deep into the pockets of his jacket. Subconsciously, his expression grew cold and irritated once the boy's presence was made known.
"Jisung! What are you doing here? I thought you had the lunch period before this one?" Changbin questioned. Hyunjin only snorted, grabbing Felix and making sure he putting space in between the him and Jisung. Though his actions didn't go unnoticed as a annoyed smile spread across their unwelcomed guest's face.
He whistled as he placed his hands down on the table. "Oh, I switched classes remember? That meant the lunch periods I take change to. But I was out here to get some practice on my audition for the talent show... my friend Sunwoo was supposed to help me with the rap." Jisung explained, nodding along to the words he spoke. He took one glance towards Hyunjin before turning towards him.
"Hyunjin! I heard you were going to audition to right? What are you going to sing?" He asked, batting his eyelashes at him with an innocent look. The boy struggled to respond, it was as if Jisung was asking him the impossible! "I'm going to sing a Dean song. You know Half Moon right? It was super popular song that released a few years back. Sunwoo thought it would be great song for me and honestly, it fits me perfectly."
Was he purposefully trying to start a fight with him? Because Hyunjin was this close to choking him out on the spot. "We have a song planned." Jeongin intervened, trying to ease the tension Jisung kept building up. "I'm Hyunjin's brother, we're going to participate together. We have the song ready and everything, we're just waiting for the auditions to spring up."
Jisung looked pleasantly surprised by Jeongin's comment. Though it didn't last long as began stretching his arms and speaking again. "How cute! The brothers are going to audition together! I really hope you get past the auditions then Hyunjin, I look forward to the little duet you two have planned." With that, the despised little squirrel walked away.
