"Hyunjin, come on!" Jeongin complained, struggling to pull the older brother through the hallway. "We'll only be in there for five seconds! We grab the song and then dip, why are you making this more difficult than it has to be?!" Hyunjin was practically trembling right now, unsure of how he wanted to go through with this situation. It was next week and the two boys were supposed to retrieve the song from Chan today. Yet he was feeling anxious and insecure to the point where he had to stop walking and turn around to go the other way.
He snatched his hand away from Jeongin, resisting a nasty glare. "Why don't you just go get the lyrics for us, huh? If I'm being so difficult then just go get it by yourself!" Hyunjin snapped, unintentionally making his younger brother recoil at his tone. He wasn't trying to be mean, but the thought of seeing Chan again made him feel even worse than he actually should. He didn't want to deal with it and if he had to snap at his own brother to do so then he wouldn't.
Jeongin frowned and punched the boy's shoulder. "If not for the lyrics, then go for yourself." He stated, catching Hyunjin off guard. The younger brother snorted at his reaction as he continued on,"I know the only reason you don't want to go is because he was dating your stupid crush, but you wouldn't be acting like this if you didn't know that. It's unfair to Changbin's friend even if he doesn't know what's going on and you know that."
He had a point, he hated when Jeongin actually made sense in their arguments. Sometimes it felt like his step brother was the actual oldest of the two. Too bad he was born a little too late to claim his spot as older brother. "Man up, go get the lyrics, and we start practicing. The auditions are soon and, man, I just wanted to have fun and sing with you."
Hyunjin sighed and forced himself to start walking again. "You better be glad you're my brother." Jeongin let out a relieved sigh and started following after him, pummeling him with encouraging punches to make sure Hyunjin didn't make out at the last minute. Though the older brother knew exactly what he was going to as soon as they got to their desired destination.
The boys had never talked face to face with Chan. The entire time, Changbin had been speaking him and calling him whenever the two needed something. His friend had told them to meet up at the auditorium after school, since that's where he was a majority of the time. However Hyunjin had stopped half way with his little fit with Jeongin, so it took a little while longer for them to get there an normal.
"Are you sure it's open today?" Jeongin questioned as they stopped in front of the doors peering through the small window. "It looks pretty dark in there, what if the theatre teacher in there doesn't want us in here? Wouldn't that be breaking the rules?" He glanced up at Hyunjin for an explanation. The older brother rolled his eyes at him, grabbing the handle and swinging it open without hesitance.
"Of course it's open Jeongin! It's a school auditorium not a broadway stage. We can go in here whenever we like." He stated, marching into the auditorium like he owned the place. However, Hyunjin stopped in his tracks when he looked towards the empty seats, noticing how there was someone in the room with them. He wouldn't have cared at first, as he came here for Chan and his song and all. But that's the thing, the senior student was is in the seats but with someone else. With Han Jisung.
Normal Hyunjin would ignore it to the best of his ability, pretend that Jisung didn't exist and all. But there was an awful lot of tension rising between him and Chan and he didn't know if he should intervene or not. "Hyunjin what are you—" Jeongin spoke before the older brother stopped him, shoving him back so that the two couldn't be seen. The step sibling fought back, confused as to way he was making him step out of the auditorium. "Hyunjin?"
"Wait here, please?" He asked him, batting his eyes at him innocently. Jeongin groaned as he leaned up against the wall, shooing him to go back inside. Hyunjin gave him a slightly thanks as he slipped back into the auditorium, hiding behind the reclining chairs to make sure he wasn't seen. Chan and Jisung were up and walking around now, but it was more out of nervousness and anxiousness. As if the two sat they'd probably explode.
"You're almost out of here Jisung." Chan stated, walking right behind the boy while they paced the aisle. Jisung looked as though he wasn't listening to him, ignoring him to the best of his ability. "You can't just drop out now! You've made it this far, there's only one more run after this for you and you're out! Why are you trying to quit now?" This was new to Hyunjin, honestly anything that wasn't Jisung's annoying presence was new to him.
"You really think all those grades I got were of my own doing?" Jisung turned around to face Chan. The boy stopped in his tracks, opening his mouth to respond but finding them hard to come out. "I've been goofing around for three years, and now exams are coming up so I can get into senior year and I don't even know what I'm going to do with my life! Now I'm just wasting my time on this dumb talent show because I keep trying to escape reality."
"Come on Jisung, that's not true." Chan tried to comfort, raising his hand to give him a pat on the shoulder. However the boy refused his attempts at reassurance. "I can help you, you know that right? That's what I've been doing since I met you, and I won't let you drop out when you're this close to tasting freedom. It's just unlike you even think of something like this."
Jisung snorted, sitting down in one of the seats next to him. "Unlike me...? I've been trying to drop out since I started but I stuck it out because you and Changbin were there, but both are you are going to graduate soon. I had to switch classes because my original teachers thought I wasn't capable enough to even keep up with these super smart classes they put me in. All I have going for me is that I can sing, that's it. What's going to happen to me once you're gone?"
"Hyunjin!" Felix's voice echoed through the room as the boy slammed the door open, catching all three of guard. Hyunjin almost cursed when he heard the boy crash in but realized how bad of a situation he was in. Both Chan and Jisung were having a serious conversation and the boy was eavesdropping on it. Not only that but his best friend had literally gave him away. He glanced towards the door to see Felix standing there with a frustrated face and Jeongin giving him an apologetic smile. "We were supposed to go to the Internet cafe after you got your song, but you're taking way too long!"
He stood up and glanced to the side to see Chan and Jisung staring at them, bewildered at the fact that they weren't the only ones inside. Hyunjin have them a sheepish smile before turning towards the senior in the room. "Ah... Changbin said you were writing a song for me and my brother, we were supposed to pick it up...?" He tried to brush off the clearly bad place he was in, but it wasn't really working.
Jisung took one glance towards Hyunjin before getting up out of his seat and making a mad dash towards the exit. "Jisung!" Chan called, but was completely ignored as he escaped out of his sight. The senior sighed before shoving his hands in his pockets. "I forgot you were coming. I left the song backstage, I'll go get it for you now." The boy tried to give Hyunjin an excited grin but dropped it as soon as he went to retrieve the song.
"What took you so long, bro? All you had to say was that and leave out." Felix complained, swinging an arm around Hyunjin. He nodded absentmindedly, staring off at the exit Jisung had took. He wondered what was going to happen now that the boy had discovered his eavesdropping? Whatever it was, he knew he really did fuck up now.
