Yeah, so shit was awkward on the bus for the next few hours. No one knew how to act around Scott and Livvie. Both were on the verge of tears but one was ready to rip off the head of whomever pushed them over the edge. Any guesses which is which?
Scott, as much as he tried to act like he was fine, he’d been reduced to incoherent muttering and the occasional stray tear. Mitch made the mistake of trying to confort him.
“Goddamn it, Mitch! I’m fine! I just want to be alone but I’m stuck on this fucking us!” he yelled. That ended the attempts to help him.
Livvie was shaking with repressed rage and disappointment. I it had been me, I would have locked myself in the bathroom and screamed myself hoarse. But she just sat there. Kirstie had tried to talk to her but only got stony silence in response. I know she’ll want to talk to me later, but there’s no privacy here.
To keep from setting off the two, people turned their attention back to me and Avi. We had ended up in the back of the bus with Esther, Kevin, Mitch and Kirstie. Avi’s arm was wrapped around me so his hand rested lightly on my stomach.
“So, you want a girl or boy?” Kevin asked.
“Boy. With my luck, any daughter of mine will be just like Carrissa, Sean, and I, a pain in the ass. Besides I’ve always wanted a son. But, hey, as long as they look more like their daddy, I am fine with whichever.” I state.
“Why? You’re gorgeous, babe.” Avi tells me. Mitch makes a little gagging noise. I roll my eyes at him.
“That is irrelevant. I still would have a miniature Avi than a mini me.” I say, thinking that I might just die of cuteness overload that way, though. The Kaplan siblings laugh before Esther speaks up.
“Avi was a little monster when we were kids. Trust me, you don’t want another one around.”
“I was not! I was a good kid,” Avi protested.
“Alright, alright. Calm down. So, did Arya ever hear about Mitch’s little adventure in Chicago?” Kirstie asks.
Mitch immediately starts whining, “Don’t tell her. She’ll kill me. Do you want to do the rest of tour without me? Because if she gets to me, you’ll have to.”
“True, but Arya could always step in, she’s got all of our voices.” Kevin pointed out.
“NO! YOU CAN’T REPLACE ME!” Mitch screatches. Everyone bursts into laughter.
“Anyway, Chicago. Mitch was up before all of us, like seven am or something. Sends us all texts that say ‘Headed to see Sean. Coming with?’ We all go hang out, Avi and Scott were being so polite and perfect it was sickening.”
“Hey, I want Arya’s mom to like me. But now, I’m not so sure that’s gonna be a thing. Anyway, Kirstie, keep going.” Avi interrupts.
“So, we’re all hanging out and then we have to leave-”
Mitch cuts Kirstie off again, “I kissed him. I was trying to kiss his cheek, he turned his head and we kissed.”
“You are really trying to keep your face intact aren’t you, Mitch?” I tease, because something in his voice made it sound like that wasn’t the whole truth.
“Oh, he is trying.” Kevin laughed.
“Well, if Mitch just straight up told you that he made out with your little brother…we all know that wouldn’t end well.” Esther added.
“Do you realize how much older you are than him?” I demand.
“I’m not that much older. He’s 20, right? So, same age gap as you and Avi,” Mitch points out. Damnit he’s right.
“Let me put it this way. Esther, Kevin, you’ve both got younger siblings. How protective of them are/were you when it comes to things like this?” I ask.
“Well, I was super skeptical when you and Avi started dating so fast. I made a promise that, if you were dating him solely because of Pentatonix, I’d personally kill you,” Esther admitted.
“I once beat up a kid that cheated on my little sister. They are the only reason I’d ever get violent, to protect them,” Kevin added.
“And isn’t it true that they all kinda fixate at a certain age in your mind? Like, you know they’re say 20, but to you, they’ll always be 16?” I asked again.
“Yep, Avi’s frozen at about 20 in my mind. I’m sure that by the time he’s 30, I’ll have convinced myself that he’s at least 25.”
“Yeah. None of my sisters break 18. They will be babies forever.”
“Now you see why I am really not liking this, Mitch? In my mind, you are five years older. Please, at least for now, don’t kiss my brother again.” I instruct. Mitch slumps a bit.
“Okay."
