New Beginnings- (Jesse Polock)

A few months passed and they were spent working, doing rescues and first aids. It was Christmas Eve and Jesse and I had Christmas Day off. I had been feeling ill for a few weeks. I didn’t really think much of it. I had medical issues with my stomach so it wasn’t uncommon.

I woke up to the sunshine trying to makes itself known through the blinds. Jesse was still sound asleep. I climbed out of bed and plodded along to the bathroom. I felt sick again I sat on the toilet and started to think. I suddenly realised that I hadn’t had my period in a few months however this wasn’t uncommon as I have cysts on my ovaries and don’t always ovulate. What made me concerned is that I hadn’t had the period and I was feeling sick. I finished in the bathroom then threw on a floral dress over my pink lacy g-string and bra. I pulled my hair into a top knot.

“I’m just heading off to the shops, do you want anything?” I asked Jesse waking him up. HE grumbled and looked at me.

“Ermm no I don’t think so” he said rubbing his eyes, “Oh maybe some Red Bull”

“Okay, I love you” I said giving him a kiss.

“I love you too” he said as I walked out of the bedroom door. I walked downstairs and out of the front door. I lit a cigarette as I made my way to the shop. We were going to go across to Jesse’s parents later on for dinner as we are spending tomorrow by ourselves.

I arrived at the shop and walked over to the milk isle and grabbed some milk. I also grabbed some bread, an energy drink of some sort and some apple juice for me. I think made my was to the toiletries isle. I grabbed some new face wash and soap. I then decided to look as some pregnancy tests. I don’t really know what I’d do if I was. Definitely keep it but it’ll be a surprise. I’m glad Jesse will be the dad. He’s amazing with children. I grabbed three tests as I have OCD and I’m paranoid. I paid for my shopping and made my way back home.

When I arrived back home Jesse had made us breakfast. I threw the tests into my handbag so Jesse wouldn’t see them. I plonked the bag on the side and started drinking my apple juice. Jesse had made some waffles with maple syrup.

I finished my breakfast and made my way up to the bathroom as Jesse went and sat out in the garden. I left my handbag in the bedroom and took the tests out. I locked the bathroom door and got too it. I left the tests on the side as I waited for them to develop. I decided to text Erin, Maxi’s girlfriend, we had become close over the last few months.

Erin can you keep a secret for me?? Xx

I placed the phone on the side and waited for a reply. It didn’t take long for my phone to buzz.

Of course I can, why?xx

I quickly typed a reply.

I think I’m pregnant.xx

I almost instantly got a reply.

OH MY GOD!!!!! :O :O :O are you doing a test? Xx

I replied

Yes, just waiting for them to develop now.

Erin replied.

Let me know what they say. Xx

By now the tests had had time to develop. I looked at the first one, one line. Negative, phew. I looked at the second one, two lines. Positive, fuck! I looked at the second one. Two lines again. Shit I’m pregnant! I’m really pregnant. What am I going to do? I’m going to have to tell Jesse straight away. I can’t hide this. I picked up the two tests and took then with me. I looked at my stomach in the long mirror at my tummy. I looked like I had put some weight on, I must be 3 or 4 months along as I haven’t had a period for that long.

I made my way outside to Jesse. I sat down next to him on the grass.

“Jesse, I’ve got something to tell you” I mumbled. He looked at me with a worried expression, “I’m pregnant.” I said showing him the sticks. I froze and I burst into tears.

“Shhh, why are you crying?” Jesse said hugging me.

“Because I’m scared” I said  crying into his shoulder.

“Don’t be, we’ll be fine. I thought you could be with all of the nausea. I’m excited” he said smiling, “I love you Ruby, we’ll give our child the best life ever” he said still hugging me.

“Okay, I love you too Jesse” I said leaning up to kiss him. He took a picture of the two lines on the test. We decided to make a doctor’s appointment for when they reopened after Christmas. Jesse also text Hoppo telling him but made sure he wouldn’t tell anyone. He said that I would be in the tower and free for first aids or a resus but I wasn’t allowed to surf. I had passed all of my practical stuff of my traineeship just needed to finish off TAFE. I text Erin to tell her the news. She was excited for us, I’m still unsure. I’m sure I’ll start to get excited soon.

Eventually the time came round for us to going round to Jesse’s parents’ house for a BBQ. We grabbed their presents and made our way over to their house. We arrived at their house and jumped out of the car. Jesse grabbed the presents.

Jesse was the first through the front door and I followed suit. His mum and dad came to greet us. I hugged them both and we all went and sat out in the back garden. We gave each other our presents then Jesse and his dad started cooking the BBQ. I sat and talked to Jesse’s mum. She my adopted mummy and I love her.

“Debs, can I ask you something?” she nodded, “How did you feel when you found out that you were pregnant with Jesse?”

“I was shocked, it took me a while to digest it. It wasn’t until I could really see my bump or when he started to kick my bladder that made me excited” she said, “Why?”

“I’m pregnant” I said, she looked at me in shock then smiled.

“Congratulations!” she said hugging me, “You’ll start getting excited, trust me. When they start to move it’s amazing. I’m assuming you’ve told Jesse.” I nodded.

“He’s really excited,” I said, “don’t tell his dad yet though. I’ve only told you because you’re my mum” I said laughing.

“Don’t worry, you’re secret is safe with me” she said hugging me again. We sat and talked until the food was ready. We stayed for tea and watched some TV then headed off home.

“I’m going to bed” I said to Jesse as I made my way too the stairs, “I’m hanging”

“I’ll join you” Jesse said following me up the stairs. I got myself unchanged and looked at my naked self in front of the mirror. I placed my hands on my tummy. Jesse came up from behind me and wrapped his arms around me placing his hands over mine.

“I won’t be this slim for a while now” I said to Jesse.

“I don’t care” he said nuzzling his hair into my neck which made me giggle, “We should make a time lapse video.” He mumbled into my neck. Oh my god that was and awesome idea! Jesse grabbed the camera and put on a pair of booty shorts. I stood with my back against the plain wall with my arm across my breasts. Jesse took a photo. I then turned to me side and did the same then Jesse took the photo again. I then climbed into bed and Jesse followed me. I snuggled up to him. It was nice to feel his skin against mine. I soon fell asleep.
