New Beginnings- (Jesse Polock)

I woke up a little while later. The boys were still out surfing and Jesse was still in the same position as when I first fell asleep. I turned to look up at him.

“Hey there sleepy head” he said smiling.

“Hey” I replied smiling back at him. “how long was I asleep for”

“About half an hour” I nodded and stood up, “Where are you going” he asked as I started to undress myself.

“For a swim, are you coming?” I said once I was stood in just my bikini. He nodded and took my hand as we walked to the sea. I dove through a wave and followed Jesse as he swam towards Koby and the boys seeing as though they weren’t surfing that far off shore. We reached the boys and I climbed onto Jesse’s back.

“Hey there love birds” Kory said as he saw us. I blushed and Jesse shot him a look.

“Shut up man” Jesse said to him. I climbed off his back and started to tread water next to him. I really wanted to surf but I didn’t have a board. I swam in a few waves and left Jesse with Koby and the boys. I returned back out them and did the same thing a few times.

“Hey rubs, use my board and catch a wave” Kory said to me climbing off his board.

“Are you sure?” I said, he nodded. I climbed up onto his board attached the leg rope and paddled to where I needed to be. I saw a wave coming behind me and I heard Jesse and the boys shouting at me to paddle. I paddled as fast as I could catching the wave. I stood up and rode the wave back to shore.

Returning to shore there were a group of men being well men, wolf whistling. I flipped them off and paddled back out to Jesse. They group of boy saw who I was paddling out too and soon shut up. I jumped off of Koby’s board and he climbed back on it.

We spent the afternoon surfing and swimming. Eventually we made our way back to shore and back to Jesse’s house. We arrived and his parents were out. We went upstairs, showered and got changed.  My phone buzzed.

Better get yourself home Ruby, I wasn’t finished with you earlier. I know where you are. You’re at the boys house. I’ll come and get you.

“Shit!” I muttered to myself. Jesse looked over to me.

“Whats up?” he asked walking over to me.

“Alex’s on his way over here, he said he’s not finished with me” I said starting to panic. Jesse held me close and pulled out his phone. He dialled a number and waiting for the person on the other end to answer.

“Hey mate… yeah I need a favour” he said to who I assume was Koby. “yeah Alex’s on his way over to mine… yeah cheers mate” with that he hung up the phone. He looked at me.

“Koby and a few of the boys are on there way over. He won’t touch you. We won’t let it” I said rubbing my arm. I nodded and walked downstairs and towards the garden. Jesse followed me. I sat down on the grass and lit up a cigarette. I took my top off just so I was sat with my shorts and a bikini top on. I took a long drag off of my cigarette and led down and closed my eyes. Jesse laid down next to me. A few minutes went by and his phone went off again.

“Hey… yeah round the back… yeah bye” He said hanging up his phone. I assumed Koby was here. With that the back gate opened. Jesse got up and greeted the boys with the ‘bra boys handshake’, Koby’s girlfriend, Nat, was also here. She hugged Jesse then came over and sat next to me. I sat myself up and gave her a hug.

“That’s a bruise and a half” she said looking at my face, “Koby told me what happened, I hope you don’t mind” she always felt like she needed approval from me. I don’t know whether its because I’ve been hanging round with the boys for years and she has been for so long. I shrugged and looked at her.

“Nah its fine, it’s nothing unusual. It’s the first time he’s come looking for me though.” I said taking another drag from my cigarette.

“You’ll be alright,” she said. “The boys are here” Jesse and the boys came and sat with us so we were sat in a circle. I rested my head on Jesse’s shoulder. Koby passed a beer round to everyone. We sat in the garden talking, drinking and smoking until the sun went down. Just as I was about to look at my phone a load of sirens went flying down the back street of the garden.

“I wonder what’s going on,” Nat said standing up and looking out of the back gate. “Shit, there a man lying on the side of the road.” We all stood up and looked down the road. Just then a woman came running up to us screeching something none of us could understand. The closer this woman got I realised who it was.

“This is all your fault!” she screeched in my face.

“What are you on about Stella?” I asked confused. She pushed my chest knocking me backwards. The boys took their guard up.

“You know exactly what I’m on about, he’s dead. He’s fucking dead and it’s all your fault.” She said pushing me again.

“How the fuck is it my fault?” I shouted back pushing her back. Jesse and Koby stepped between us. “How is it my fault that your boyfriend is and alcoholic smack head? I didn’t force drink down his neck or shoot him up did I? I’m not surprised he’s dropped down dead and good riddance. I might finally stop getting a multi-coloured face.” Just then Stella tried to hit me over Koby and Jesse. I tried to hit her back but the boys pushed us apart. Koby pulled her away as she tried to wrestle with him. The police ran up the road and grabbed her. They quickly put some handcuffs on her and shoved her in the back of the car.

“You okay?” Jesse said still holding me. I just nodded as he wrapped his arms around me kissing the top of my head. “Come on lets go in” he said leading me back into his house. I curled myself up on the sofa. Koby, the boys and Nat said bye to us and went home. Jesse pulled me towards him so he could but his arm around me. He stroked my arm as I fell asleep.
