Ch.1
I got ready and headed out to Wal-Mart, as I did every two weeks. I loved to see all of the people, but dreaded every trip, wondering if I was going to turn into that monster again, I haven’t since I ran away, but I never know. I have a real good paying job at a local BBQ restaurant. I have made enough money to buy a decent vehicle. A car. Not one of those ugly, break-down-on-you cars. I bought a used car that is black, it runs pretty good too.
I got out of the car and walked as calmly as possible into the store. I got a cart and went straight to the groceries. I had a fairly small list, that wouldn’t take up too much time: Milk, eggs, flour, sugar, cereal, ground beef, toiletries, and some chicken. I buy just enough food to last the two weeks, and then buy the same amount the next, of course I buy different things sometimes.
I got to the vegetables. I decided I would get a few fruits, apples and grapes. As I checked the apples to see if they were rotten or not, I looked up and a few feet ahead of me, getting lettuce, his back turned to me, was Mike. I stopped breathing, and knocked the cereal box out of my cart. It landed on the floor with a loud thump. I looked around and saw some people looking at me. I said “whoops” and smiled at the people who smiled at me and bent down to pick it up.
After I rose up and put it in the cart, I turned around and saw Mike, looking about twenty - three standing right in front of me. He smiled. “Jasmine, how nice to see you, where have you been staying these few years?” he asked me. He could see the panicked look on my face. I saw him texting into his phone without looking. My panicked expression worsened, my breathing became difficult.
I left the buggy and turned around and ran. I saw a few people watching me as I ran. I slowed to a walk as I saw the doors, and went through them, after that I ran to my car, and got in. I tried to catch my breath. I didn’t realize how long I had been sitting there until I heard the back door behind the driver’s door open and shut. I froze. I knew Mike was sitting behind me. I should have driven off as soon as I got in the car. But I didn’t and now he has found me. “Please, Jasmine listen. I have been looking for you ever since you left. I’m sorry that you don’t want to live with me, but you have to. I made a deal with your parents. I would let them know what you are in exchange for you.”
I looked in the rearview mirror and saw him, he slowly looked seventeen again. “Get out of my car.” I mumbled. I saw him move, and the light from the lights on the parking lot glinted off something in his hand. I didn’t have enough time to react. He had given me a shot. I felt dizzy. The car spun around me, and I leaned into the headrest, trying not to fall over.
I didn’t notice him get out of the backseat and open my door until he had picked me up and was laying me down across the back seats. The blackness took over then. I didn’t dream of the first time we met. Instead I dreamed of myself, well my monster, running across a field, running intently after Mike, wanting to catch up with him, in a friendly way. I’m sure he made me dream that.
