Sneak Peek

My name is Jalisha Hall and I'm a Rn here at Shadow Creek Hospital. I've been working here for over a year now. I'm not a people person but I do my job well. A lot of the other nurses here talk behind my back and try to make it hard for me because I'm younger than them. Most of them are in their 40s and 50s. Me I'm 36 years old. I hear them say oh she think she's all that cause she's pretty or shaped well. I just walk by and roll my eyes. My beauty has nothing to do with my skills and my hard work.

Dr. Alonzo Chapman walked in the office and started reviewing the charts. We always made eye contact and I would look away. Good morning everyone he said. Good morning we all said. I hope you guys got a lot of sleep last night because we have a lot to do today. I need everyone to stay on post and make well with all patients. As you know we have the Director will be down today to observe what we are doing. So everyone please be on your best behavior. No gossiping please.

Jalisha I need to speak with you in my office please. Yes sir I'll be right there. As we walked to his office I heard whispers and head turns from the other guys. We walked in the office and sat down. Have a seat please he said as he pointed to the chair. How is your day going so far? It's going very well and you? I'm doing well. Thanks for asking. Ok what I wanted to talk to you about is you working under me permanently. Wow really? Yes really. Are you up for the job? Yes that will be awesome.

Ok well I will need you to sign a few papers and it will be all set for us. I can't believe this is happening to me. I got the position that I've been waiting for. Of coarse I'll be the talk of hospital but I don't care. I signed the papers and passed them back to him. God that man is so fine. I'm gonna have to be focused working with him. He's so fine. The way he lick his lips walks dress it just drives me nuts. The thing about it is we can't date workers and he's married. Jalisha! Jalisha!!! I snapped out of my daze and answered. Yes. Ok you all set to go. Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with you. It's definitely my pleasure baby. I had a flash of hotness hit me. Is something wrong Alonzo asked. Oh no I'm ok. Is it something else I need to do? No that will be all close the door behind you for me. Sure and again thank you so much for this. No problem you deserve it.

I walked out the office and all the stares begin to happen. The only nurse I talk to is Mandy Shaw. She's cool and really have my back. She graduated with me from college. So what happened in there Mandy asked. He offered me the position and I took it. Omg girl that's amazing. But this is my thing can you handle working with him knowing you have a crush on him? Yeah I can do that. Are you sure cause the last time I heard you having dreams and shit. Mandy I'm ok. Alright girl well congratulations to you boo. Thank you babes. You want to go to lunch with me? Sure we can do that let me finish this chart and we can go. Ok let me go get my purse and I'll meet you back at the nursing station. Ok cool.

I went to grab my purse and overheard two of the nurses gossiping about me. Yeah girl she ain't been here but a year and got the position I bet. That's fucked up. I've never seen this happen. I have been here 23 years and got overlooked. I know girl and I thought for sure you would get it. Linda things will be better soon. No it want Becky. I have done so much for this company for years and she comes in with her bony ass and get as the position. This is not gonna go over smooth if I find out that she did. I walked in as if I didn't hear nothing. They both looked crazy when I entered the room. Becky said hey girl how are you? I walked by as if I didn't hear her. Excuse me didn't you hear me talking to you. I did hear you. Just like I heard the two of you talking about me just now.

It wasn't like that honey Linda said. Oh but it was Jalisha said. I heard what you said and for your information if you didn't get the position maybe you wasn't qualified for the job. Just because you been here 23 years doesn't mean you fit for it. I have degrees and graduated top of my class. So yeah I deserved position. Now I will appreciate it if you kept my name of your mouth Linda. I grabbed my things and walked out the break room. I bet those heffas want be running their mouth about me anymore.

I met Mandy back at the nursing desk and we headed to the elevator. You look flushed Mandy asked what's wrong? I walked up on Linda and Becky talking about me. Wow what did they said? Talking about me getting the position and because she's been here longer and I've only been here a year. Damn that's messed up. Right and I worked damn hard to get me where I am today. I understand. Don't let that bother you. Come on let's go eat lunch. You right I'm not gonna worry about it. Besides girl them old ass bags ain't bout shit you on your way to the top. They both laughed and got on the elevator.
