Theatre Is A Lie ~ Joshua Burrage

Chapter 6

Ami wandered aimlessly down the streets of New York, trying to figure out where in the world she was going. She knew at this point she would be most definitely late so she rushed more than she already was. Eventually she resorted to calling Josh, who gave her directions to the rehearsal location. Eventually she arrived at the studio they would be learning the show in and opened the door slowly.

Ben jumped up, "And here comes our Katherine!" Everyone clapped and Ami's face turned red, "Sorry I'm late... New York has some very confusing streets. One of the cast members came up to her, sticking out his hand, "Hi I'm Dan DeLuca. I'll be playing Jack Kelly." Ami shook his hand, laughing, "At least I don't have to kiss Josh Burrage." Josh let out a "Hey!"

Dan DeLuca laughed, "I feel like we'll get along just fine." Josh walked up to Ami, giving her a hug, "Good to see you again!" Ami rolled her eyes jokingly in response, "You literally stalk me don't even act like it's been a week." Josh smiled and pointed at a ton of people. "You already know Sky and Ben, who are in ensemble, we also have-" He began pointing to everyone, "Mark Aldrich, Josh Assor, Evan Autio, Bill Bateman, Kevin Carolan, DeMarius Copes, Julian DeGuzman, Nico De Jesus, Steve Greenstein, Jon Hacker, Jeff Heimbrock, Stephen Hernandez, James Judy, Meredith Inglesby, Eric John Mahlum, Ginna Claire Mason, Michael Ryan, Jordan Samuels, Jack Sippel, Melissa Steadman Hart, Andrew Wilson and Chaz Wolcott." Ami struggled to keep up, laughing to herself, "I'm going to get so many of you confused I'm actually going to feel bad..." People laughed at her and who she believed was Jeff H came up to her and shook her hand, "I can help you get acquainted with the cast."

Josh pointed over to the rest, "You know Dan, we have Steve Blanchard who plays Pulitzer, Angela Grovey who plays Medda, Jacob Kemp who plays Davey, Zach Sayle who plays Crutchie, and the two babies of the cast, Vincent Crocilla and Anthony Rosenthal who both alternate the role of Les. Guys, this is Ami Saratoga who will be our Katherine!"

It seemed that rehearsals passed in a blur. The constant coffee dates with Josh, Ben, and Sky on those early mornings, the constant tap dancing and singing, learning that Dan and Ami has natural chemistry, etcetera. It was suprising how fast two months could go by and Ami was already waving goodbye to Rachel as she walked off with Dan and Josh to the airport.

When they got through security and sat down, Ami's stomach started to rumble, begging for food. Dan laughed, "Looks like this cutie needs some food!" He dragged her off to a Starbucks and bought her a breakfast sandwich despite her constant protests. As she took a bite out of her bacon, egg, and gouda sandwich, she listened to Dan ramble about how excited he is to perform soon. She nodded along, interrupting quickly, "Thank you for the sandwich, Dan, you really didn't have to buy it for me." Dan smiled, "Anything for a beautiful girl like you!"

Ami blushed and laughed, "Ack! Stop! You're making me blush!" Dan chuckled, "Well what if I think..." Ami glared at him playfully, "No! Don't do it!" He smirked, finishing his sentence, "You're blushing is cute." "Nooooooo!" The pair laughed, reaching their boarding area. Josh watched sadly as Dan constantly flirted with Ami. He wasn't sure why he was so sad, it's not like she was his girlfriend or anything...

He looked away, not even realising he spared himself from seeing Dan kiss the girl. The kiss confused Ami, for she hadn't been in any sort of relationship after Erric. She kissed back without even realising and pulled away shortly after, not managing to speak. She looked around quickly and after seeing that nobody seemed to have noticed, turned back to Dan, relieved.

Dan smiled, whispering to her, "I... I like you Ami... A lot. I understand if you don't want to make it public right away but... will you be my girlfriend?"

Ami felt a warm fuzzy feeling inside and her cheeks felt hot. Something about this... something felt wrong. Something told her that she shouldn't date Dan. That he wasn't who she was supposed to be with. But not too long after she was overcome with a fuzzy feeling and a prominent "butterflies in the stomach" moment. She looked up at Dan and smiled, whispering back, "Yeah. I'd love to be your girlfriend..."

Dan hugged her, "Sit with me on the plane?" Ami nodded and the man at the front of the boarding area called out for them to board and they quickly, hand and hand, ran up to go board. Josh could feel something was wrong.

Josh could feel that the universe got just a little more dull for him. He felt... he felt his train come to a halt and an absence in his heart. He felt like he was missing something. He stood for a moment, not sure what this feeling exactly was but it was quickly flushed out by Sky and Ben running up to them and dragging him onto the plane.
