I come to a stop and groan. I've looked everywhere for Alaxandria but still no sign of her. Now I'm in the cafeteria, the largest room in the compound after the training room. My head buzz every step I take. I can feel another headache coming. I should probably go back but I need to check in on my brother fist.
He's usually in his room when he's not partying or training so that's where I decide to check first.
As I approach the door I hear a loud bang. Then another one follows a couple of seconds later. Confused and a little worried I decide to open the door without knocking.
The scene before me was not what I expected at all. There was Alaxandria, under my brother, completely naked. They were moving, the headboard occasionally hitting the wall which had caused the loud noise.
I stare, startled in a daze as my best friend wraps herself tightly around at my brother, her short platinum hair barely grazing the pillow.
"Ahh, you feel so good Travis." She gasps.
"Yeah," My brother whispers in her ear.
"Ah, yes daddy," she nearly screams.
Ew.
This is traumatizing.
I close the door harder than I meant too but I doubt they noticed. I jog down the hallway back to the cafeteria, but instead of heading to my room like I had planned too, I walk straight outside. I needed to breath and to wrap my mind around what I just witnessed.
I had walk at least a mile when I was forced to stop. The shock I felt slowly transformed into confusion, anger and hurt.
Why? I ask myself. The compound is full of other guys but she chose my brother. How dare he fück my best friend? Is he treating her good? Who else knows? Why didn't they tell me? The only two people I had apart from Denver.
I groan and slide to the floor, resting my head against a tree trunk. I was deep in the woods, I realize. I had no flashlight and the sun was already going down.
I should go back , I think to myself. Not because it was getting dark but because the border was so close. But my body disagreed and soon I was being pulled back in the dark.
"What won't happen?"
I jump up incredibly fast and open my mouth to scream. But a hand has already found it's way over my mouth. No. I struggle and try to kick the person, but that didn't do nothing.
"Calm down." It's a man's voice. "I'm going to let go. Please don't scream." He waits for me to answer. I nod. Carefully he let go of my arm then he drop his hand away from me. I quickly reached out to my boots for my knife. But it's not there. I look up, squinting in the darkness. He's holding both of them.
"Give them back." I say to him, my voice rising.
"Why would I do that?" I can't see him clearly, but I can still hear the laughter in his voice.
"Because they're mine." I snap back, barely able to contain my anger.
"Calm down," He says, acting like he's going to hand them to me. But before my hands could touch them he pulls it back.
"Promise, you won't try anything funny?" He asks.
"I won't." I roll my eyes, taking it out of his hand myself. I walk back to my tree and sits down to the floor.
"Who the hell are you?" I look up at him, he looks tall, really tall. "Are you a soldier?" When he didn't answer, I raise an eyebrow at him, even though he can't see in the dark. He crouch down, digging his own knife into the ground. My whole body tense up,of course he's armed. I should be more careful.
"Do I look like a soldier to you?" He ask almost offensively. Which confuses me because being a soldier is one of the greatest honors here in the sectors. We fight for the people. The rebels.
"Well, I can't see what you look like, genius." I roll my eyes
He laughs briefly.
"You're right." I see him dig into his pocket for something. Another weapon? My grip on the knives tighten.
"Here, take this." I eye the object clasped in his hands. When I fail to get it he drops it in front of me. "It's a flashlight."
"I can't use it," I mumble. "I'm worried they'll see us and shoot at us." As I'm finishing my sentence, I hear a crunch in the leaves, someone or something is coming. Both of us stands up at the same time.
"I got to go." He says quickly. "Take it." He says.
"What is that?" I say but he's already backing away.
"You should go home." He starts to run.
"Wait," I say. I almost started running after him. But too late, he already disappeared in the darkness.
You never told me your name.
When I walk into my room that night, I take my shoes off and immediately slide under the covers. I choose not to turn the lights on, but even in the darkness I can tell that Alaxandria wasn't there. I feel a slight pang of betrayal in my chest. I gag, this feeling sucks. My fingers slides over the flashlight that for a reason, I was still holding.
Oddly, the weird feeling seems to be soothed away when I think about the previous owner. I start to imagine his face in my head, and pretty soon I couldn't tell if the images in my head was my imagination or a dream.
