Night sighed as he pets Day. Day was a light-skinned girl, with golden yellow hair. She had cute little wolf ears that were pressed against her head as he pets her. She leaned against him, requesting more pets and her tail wagged. He sighed and pet her more to make her happy. She smiled happily as the ever-flowing thin stream of blood dripped from her face. Her hair covered her eyes, which he personally thought were beautiful, but she thought otherwise.

Night was practically her opposite. He had black hair, pale skin, and pale blue eyes with black sclera. He had on a black jacket and dark grey sweater, and he had horns and a demon tail, both of which were black. He still smiled, however, when Day ran up to him for cuddles, or to talk. He smiled whenever he was around her. Their youngest son, Nightfall, chased his little sister, Twilight, around the meadow they were in. Nightfall was holding tulips in his hands and trying to stuff them in her mouth, saying loudly that 'Tulips belong on your mouth!!'. Loud laughter and squeals came from where they were playing.

His smile faltered, however, whenever he thought of how happy this made him. When he remembered how happy it made Day, Nightfall, and Twilight because he knew that he and Day would be friends. Just friends. Just friends until their days ended. Day had a wife already, and he was happy for her! ... But... He was still saddened by the fact the one he had loved since elementary would never love him back. Not in the way he loved her, at least.

"Just friends..." He murmured to himself, causing Day to look up at him with her ears twitching.

"Hmm?"

"Nothing, Sunny Day."

She frowned slightly, but nodded "Okay..." He sighed. He couldn't tell her this. If he told her, he would ruin their friendship. He didn't want that. He didn't want to lose his childhood friend over some stupid crush.

~~~
Day was worried. She knew when Night was lying. He's been her best friend since kindergarten, and he remained friends even during their time in the lab. He was lying when he said nothing was wrong. She had nodded and acted like she didn't know, but she still worried.
