Kevin rocked back on his heels, his dark green eyes narrowing as he took in the wires that were currently hanging freely from the side of his motorcycle. He knew they were supposed to connect somewhere but had yet to figure out where in the past half hour. With a frustrated sigh, he pulled off his red ball cap and tossed it down to the ground before letting his rear hit the concrete. He looked completely annoyed with his sweat dampened hair sticking up at odd angles from his hat. Like usual, three strands stuck up in his face, seeming more of a nuisance then anything else to him at this point. What am I doing wrong? he wondered, dragging his grease covered fingers through his hair. He never had this much trouble with his bike.
As if on queue, the sound of a child giggling made him turn his head. Riding around the Cul-de-Sac on a familiar silver bike was his little sister, Raven. She shared his carrot red hair and deep green eyes, but lacked the freckles and dense build. She had a slight build that promised a willowy figure when she got older, as well as quite a few boys having to go through her big brother. The thought made him smirk crookedly. No one but the best would touch his little sister if he had anything to say about it.
"Hey Kev." A familiar female voice said from the opposite side of him. With him living at the end of the semi circle of houses, it wasn't all that hard to figure out who it was that spoke.
"S'up Nazz." he called over his shoulder, watching as the blond girl that he had been friends with for so long walked along the curb to his driveway. She had let her hair grow out a bit so it fell to her shoulders instead of resting at chin level. She still wore her usual tank top, but instead of her baggy jeans, she wore a black pair of cargoes that clung to her hips but flared everywhere else. Under them, she wore a pair of skater shoes that he always teased her about.
"She looks just like you riding on that." She said, nodding over to where Raven was riding.
"Only a lot nicer to look at." he chuckled, his mind going back to the 'good ole days' when he would have been polishing the chain on his bike instead of almost ripping his hair out trying to figure out how to put a motor together for a motorcycle. "Sarah hear anything about Double Dweeb's old house? I saw her lurking around the yard shortly after the sold sign went up."
Sarah had grown into her loud mouth and had become the main person for gossip in the Cul-de-Sac, especially for their little group. Her brother had grown out of the awkward lankiness that he had when they were kids, making his one of the best quarterbacks that Peach Creek had ever seen.
Nazz came up to his side and plopped down on the concrete, looking out at the street at his sister. She had the same small smile on her face that she always had, one that showed just how content with exsisting she was. "Nothing much. She thought she saw Double D's hat through the window but that couldn't be. He got into the fancy school so why would he come back here?" She seemed a little disappointed, which made Kevin remember that she had often been one of the kinder people to the beanie wearing genius.
He looked away from her, leaning back into his bike to twist a wire around a different one. "Coming back to roots doesn't seem like something that he would have done. Especially not with his group of friends."
Nazz nudged his shoulder, laughing. "I thought you and Eddy made up awhile ago." she teased, making him scowl a bit.
It was true, him and the blockhead had worked out the closest thing to a friendship they were going to get, which was him not being so much of a jerk to Eddy and Eddy not trying to sneak into his garage for the jaw breakers that he always seemed to have. It wasn't exactly a friendship but it was better then what they had been doing. They still didn't like each other, but they could at least be in the same room with each other without immediately insulting each other.
