Chapter one
Catherine beeped her car horn a third time out the front of Ellie's house, at this point she already had a rock ready to throw at the window.
Ellie's eyes opened. Not with a snap like normal at her alarm (a.k.a mum), but gradually. Blinking away the fog restricting her vision she tried to remember last night.
As she got out if bed, her stomach lurched and Ellie ran to the bathroom and proceeded to throw up. At least she could remember drinking.
Going to school hungover was always the best idea, but Ellie didn't want to miss the first day.Cat honked again as Ellie brushed her teeth. Looking at her complexion, she decided to add some makeup to cover the bags under her eyes.
Ellie looked down at the outfit she smelt in. A sparkly tank top and leggings.
Good enough she sighed to herself. She ran downstairs grabbing her sunglasses and a hoodie on the way out, and jumped into Cat's car."Can we get coffee? It's the only thing my body accepts after a crazy night."
Even though Cat was there with Ellie last night, Cathrine failed to look anything but perfect, with her long straight hair and dark complexion. No wonder she was able to date just about anyone."Let's go get you your coffee, but first I have to pick up something." Cathrine flicked some hair out of her face and floored the accelerator.
Ellie leaned her head back on the chair, trying to calm her raging headache. But then Cat turned the music up.
Ellie groaned as some girl sang a love song called helpless.
"What the hell is this?" She whined.
Cat made an offended face, "this," she sighed turning it up, "is Philipa Soo on Broadway from Hamilton."Rubbing her temple Ellie leaned closer to her friend. "Why this song?"
Cat slowed the car down at the front of a large house. But kept the music just as loud."because..."
She said as a girl came running out of the house, just as philipa soo hit the chorus.
"🎶 down for the count and I'm drowning in em. I'm helpless 🎶"
The music tuned as the girl looked up.
Her shoulder length brown hair perfectly framed her face, her green eyes filled with delight."Oh. My. God. Ashely!" Ellie's screamed, forgetting completely about her hangover.
Ellie turned towards Cat.
"She's home from New Zealand already?" she buzzed. Cat nodded, her eyes had hearts in them.
Ellie ran out of the car and hugged her best friend."I missed you so much!" Ellie hugged tighter.
"Cat gets really annoying after so long"They both laugh and Cat elbows Ellie before hugging her girlfriend for just a tad bit too long and they they start making out.
Ellie, didn't mind, she was lost in her own hungover thoughts. She eventually comes back to Earth to realise and checks her watch before loudly clearing her throat and saying
"If you two are done shoving your tongues down each other's throats, we need to go get coffee before school starts."Ashley blushes and Cat smirks at Ellie and kisses Ashley once more on the cheek before saying
"Just because you're still single"Ellie rolls her eyes and climbs back into the car. Cat and Ashley follow her, Ashley sliding into the back seat.
"I brought back gifts" she remembers. Ellie and Cat turn around immediately. Ashley reaches into her bag and pulls out two matching necklaces.
"I got them for the whole team!" Ashley beamed, pulling under her shirt and revealing her own.
Cat takes her necklace in her hands. "It's beautiful." She sighes.Ellie took hers and looked at the blue jewel hanging from a silver chain. She put it around her neck and leaned her head on the head rest.
Ashley leaned forward and massaged Cats shoulders.
"Get a room you two." She laughed, even though she started to feel bitter. It wasn't the hangover.Through out the rest of the drive Ashley kept a steady stream of stories from her trip. When they stopped for coffee as Cat promised, Ellie turned around ever time she saw the couple kiss.
Ellie had known Cat and Ash for forever and yet, she had never been able to express how she's felt about being the only girl without a date. They were so perfect for each other, it made Ellie feel like that will never happened to her.
But she pushes those thoughts away, this wasn't about her. Today was the first day of Sophomore year, she had to start it right.
But something about the way they held each others hands without Ellie's hand with them made her feel like this year was going to be different.
