By the time the sun had reached high noon, Cirice ached. The trio stopped at a narrow stream and Cirice slipped off of Mason's back. She limped over to the nearest rock and sat down. Alex went to the water's edge, while Mason disappeared in the black smoke. He reappeared his normal self, wiping his brow.

"'Bout time for that lunch," he commented as Alex splashed water onto his face.

"What a baby," Alex commented, shouldering his bag.

"You try carrying Cirice and me and you let me know how it goes." Mason shot as Alex tossed him one of the sandwiches and then handed one to Cirice. She shifted slightly, her legs aching.

"How much further is it? We could walk a bit." Cirice suggested even though her legs begged for her to stop. Mason nodded.

"At least five more hours." Alex countered as he scarfed down his meal. Cirice ate slowly, lost in thought.

"So you're a--shapeshifter?" Cirice asked slowly, eyeing Mason. He had already finished his two sandwiches and was now scarfing down the creek water in his cupped hand.

"I believe that's what scholars call me," he replied.

"Can you turn into anything?" Mason nodded. "Anyone?" Cirice shot back, curious. Mason scoffed.

"I've never tried." Mason admitted. Cirice scoffed.

"Oh come on. Here, try." Cirice said, straightening her back and watching him expectantly. Mason laughed.

"We don't have time for this." Alex spat, running a hand through his hair. Cirice glared at him before leaning sideways and dipping her hand into the cool water of the stream. The water had a moderate current, it's coldness a relief from the pounding sun. It seemed that this land had forgotten that it was November.

"Is it always this hot?" Cirice asked softly, her eyes closed as her head cooked.

"It won't be for much longer. Soon we will hit the forest. The farther North we go, the colder it will get."

"The forest where the church is?" she countered as Mason morphed into a sleek black crow and took off into the sky. Alex nodded as Cirice watched Mason circle the area.

"What's he doing?" she asked, still very much taken aback by his new talents.

"Scouting the area. Ensuring there aren't any enemies nearby." Cirice snorted.

"What like Skyrim?"

When the reached the forest, Alex insisted they walk while Mason watched from above. As the walked, Cirice's legs shuddered. She hurt all over, was hungry, and was now chilly from the lack of direct sunlight.

"Cirice," Alex started calmly as they walked along a broken down path. She met Alex's eyes as he walked a few paces ahead of her.

"When we get to the castle, it is important for you to remember that this is 1871. Things like cell phones and Skyrim haven't even been thought of yet." Alex warned, eyeing her skeptically.
