The evening was silent, cold and dead. Just like Adam. Cinder sat and looked at both Emerald and Mercury in the a room, used for their frequent meetings and discussions. It was bare, boards with papers, letters, blueprints and maps pinned on it, a few other things scattered in the room but the table was clear, unlike Cinder's eyes.
Emerald met eyes with Cinder, her thoughts unreadable from so much happening. Then her gaze fell on to a wondering Mercury who had the same worry in his eyes. The shift of Cinder by her seat startled the two youngsters, their heads turning to look at her.
"Cinder..." Emerald softly called for their leader, concerned. They know they lost an ally but they didn't know if they should mourn or continue on.
"Adam can lay rest. It's no point for him to stay with us. He was blinded by his own...greed." Cinder lamented, looking up at the two of them. Tired, she looked so tired as if this fight had been going on too long.
But their lives must go on. And so should their plans. If they want to live in peace and survive, they should go on.
"What should we do now?" Emerald inquired, looking at Cinder expecting for an answer. Mercury glanced over at Cinder and was waiting for the same.
Cinder looks up to a board at the far end of the room, lit by an overhanging light. "We separate and destroy Team RWBY." She stood up and studied one of the numerous pictures they had of the team plastered on the board.
"If we want to destroy Beacon from within, we'll have to destroy those brats." She announced, her voice seething with poison.
Emerald and Mecury exchanged a look. "What does that have to do with bringing down Beacon? They're just a bunch of children."
"A bunch of children..." She echoed with bitterness. "If they were JUST children, we would have been able to put them down, yes." Cinder turned to them with eyes filled with anger. "If they were simple children, do you think they could kill Adam easily like that?"
Mercury slowly realized the situation. They won't be able to win that fight in the arena, a fight that they cheated on to disqualify the team from winning, a fight to crush their spirits. But they won. They won without looking like there was much effort. If they were simple huntresses-in-training then they would have come back with minimal injuries, Blake and Yang hurting more that them.
His worry-filled grey eyes turned to his partner as he put small details together in his head. "They're not...just children. What are they if that's the case? Are they human?"
Emerald turned to him with an odd look, "What? Do you think they're anything but human? Are you stupid?"
Mercury shrugged, "I'm just asking what seems like the right question here."
Cinder smiled at them both, glad that they can at least piece a few things together on their own. "And that is the right question." She takes a seat once more. "Let me tell you a story." She smiled.
"Once, people knew of creatures born from both light and dark. Creatures that have their own abilities, walking among humans and had a common enemy, the Grimm. They were not part grim but was made of many things dark. Magic, they called it." She started, her legs crossed as she lounged in her seat.
Emerald and Mercury sat attentively to hear the story, trying to digest it the best they could. Cinder then continued. "They were told to us as stories when we were children, legends and fictional beings. Some that drink blood, some that take life from a single kiss, manipulators of natures, freaks of this world. But we were always fascinated by them."
"The supernatural, the paranormal. That we call them since back them. We never knew if they truly exist but those who know...They're more than that." Cinder looked up, her eyes distant as memories of roses flooded in her mind.
"They're creatures of magic and marvel, some of nature, others of many things. Fae." She closed her eyes as she suppressed a memory she swore to never remember. "That...is what Team RWBY is. Fae. Supernatural. Paranormal. At least that's what we have gathered."
Emerald looked at Cinder in disbelief. The stories she was told of when she was young? Stories she heard of? Impossible. Just impossible.
"How can that be? Those were just stories!" Emerald declared, not believing what was coming out of their leader's lips. "Are you messing with us?"
"Not at all, Emerald. Why would I? Why would I fool you?" Cinder questioned, turning to the both of them.
"If you aren't, do you know what they are specifically?" Mercury inquired as he was trying to digest the words that cinder told them.
"There are many beings of Fae. You can't expect me to pinpoint what they are with such small encounters. We are trying to avoid them for that very reason." She turned to the two of them. "But if we have to bring them apart, you might just find out what they are. If you dare."
Emerald is frustrated with how limited their knowledge is of the group. Just how much is she willing to risk to know their enemies? What are they up to?
"But I warn you, do not underestimate them. Adam made that mistake and look where he is now. Especially Schnee and Rose. They are the most dangerous among the four. Approach with caution if you want to come back alive." Cinder warned.
Mercury sneered. "This isn't fair."
"Oh, Mercury. I wish fairness is something that applies to this cruel world." Her sweet voice taunted to him. No matter how annoying it was, he knew Cinder to be right.
"Now, no matter what they may be, keep watch. Observe them from afar. If you know how to destroy the group, do so on your own accord. We'll have to think of a way to rid of those brats." She declared.
Emerald and Mercury faltered. If they had this dilemma, wasn't it time to call for help?
"Cinder, how about calling for 'Her'?" Emerald mumbled.
Cinder's eyes flared as they turned to meet hers. "Not yet, but...We'll see. Now, Go. I still have to talk to someone." Her eyes trailed past the boards at the far end of the room. A smile from the shadows and the faint show of lace.
Emerald and Mercury merely followed her orders and left the room, their head still swimming with the bizarre possibility that their enemies...might not be even human.
