In Azalea Town of the Johto region, an old man was examining a very strange Pokeball. He had shoulder length gray hair and black eyes and was wearing a light blue robe that covered his entire body and gray slippers. The man sighed in frustration as he looked at the Pokeball which was made out of gold and silver material with the initials "GS" engraved on it.
It had been five years since Kurt received the GS Ball from Ash. Since then, he was working vigorously on trying to unlock the mystery inside it. But no matter what Kurt tried, he could not open the Ball. And he did literally everything he could think of, like drilling, hitting it with a hammer, and even using Pokemon moves on it.
"Nothing seems to work..." Kurt mumbled to himself grumpily. He got up and walked over to the video phone. Kurt sat down, took the receiver, and dialed in a number. A few minutes later, an image of Professor Oak popped up on the screen, which confused him a little bit.
"Hey Professor. No Rotom today?" Kurt asked curiously. Oak shook his head.
"Nope. He hadn't been pranking people in the last several days. In fact, all he does is cooperate with me when I need help and hang out with the other Pokemon in the ranch, most notably Ash's. It is very strange, though. Rotom usually isn't the kind to stop pranking people." he replied while crossing his arms. Kurt quirked an eyebrow.
"Really? Is he sick or something?" he inquired worriedly.
"And that's what concerns me. He is perfectly fine. That's not the only odd thing going on, though. Muk hadn't been hugging me lately. And all of Ash's Pokemon seem very hostile about something. Especially Talonflame, Hawlucha, and Noivern, who are the most pissed off. Even Snorlax is training, and he's usually eating and sleeping all the time." Oak answered grimly. Now Kurt looked really interested.
"Did something happen to Ash? That's the only reason I can think up for their behaviors." he stated, stroking his chin. Oak let out a deep breath before nodding.
"Ash called me asking for Charizard, Sceptile, and Garchomp in exchange for Dartrix, Torracat, and Rockruff. That shocked me, since he usually never uses his old Pokemon in the middle of a journey through a new region, never mind three of his strongest. And then he called again the next day and sent Garchomp back to the lab. He seemed really angry about something, and I've never seen him like that before. Also, for your information, Ash was the last person Rotom played a prank on." he explained with a nervous look. Needless to say, Kurt was even more curious.
"Strange. What could've happened that caused this?" he wondered out loud. Oak shivered at that.
"I don't know the whole story, but something is going on in Alola. And if even Ash is this worked up over it, this situation's got to be serious." he responded. Kurt's eyes suddenly grew wide in a mixture of shock and horror.
"Oh man. My granddaughter is in Alola, taking on the Island Challenge. How serious are we talking here?" he questioned Oak. He flinched.
"I have no idea. I hope it's not as world threatening as the Kalos Crisis we went through recently. But knowing Ash, it probably is." Oak admitted worriedly. Kurt shot up like a rocket, startling the professor.
"Shit. This is bad." he mumbled fearfully. Oak shot Kurt a reassuring smile.
"Not to worry. Red, Blue, and Green are in Alola too. They won't let anything happen to Maizie." the professor stated. Kurt recomposed himself upon hearing the names of the three legendary Kanto trainers. He then sat back down in his seat.
"Right. They can definitely handle whatever this is." Kurt replied, feeling much better about the whole situation. Oak nodded.
"Oh, but pardon me, we've gone way off topic here. Anyway, still no news on the GS Ball?" Oak asked curiously. Kurt instantly shook his head.
