Chapter 14

I felt a hand on my right shoulder, shocked I almost run in the corridor to the cafeteria, I'm quite avoiding, you know who is it and Kurt to meet so I went to the library when suddenly my stomach growled. I turned my face to see who is it. Dianne's worried eyes stares at me.

"Steph?"

I don't know why but I gulped. Maybe because those eyes want to bring up that topic. I inhale wishing it wouldn't.

"Uhmm... Dianne-" It's worthless. What shall I tell her ? That embarassing moment when I cried over Scarlet's shoulder even Dianne is my first friend in school? The more I thought about it the more I 'You're crazy, Steph. Why did you that?' say this to my self. Suddenly my throat was dry as if my mouth is opened for hours

"We need to talk."

"A-about what?"

And her expected worse answer formed out in her lips. It reaches my ear like a slow-mo. I'm not exaggerating, promise. When I didn't answer she began to speak.

"I'm not an idiot, Steph."

I exhale and inhale. Yes, maybe I should- no we should settle this thing first. I don't wanna feel her betrayed.

"Uhm. Maybe you can accompany me for eating lunch." I answered, full of courage. She nodded, we headed straight to the cafeteria in silence.

We can sight the cafeteria from here when she started talking. "I'm surprised you did not eat yet.  Where have you been? Uhm... You smell library, maybe there. But, why? Avoiding him?" she chuckled like it's a joke to her. Yes that's true but there's other reason. I kept my mouth, glance side since she answered all of her questions. We can also see a group of girls rounding a table. Dianne gave a glance at me.

Until we reach our table after I buy lunch and her water none of us spoke.

I knew I already said to her that we're childhood friends but not the full story and about the dinner.

"Dianne, firstly, I'm sorry to keep it secret from you, but-"

"No, No. I'm not interested what is your relationship with Scarlet, what I want to know is what's going between you- I mean what are your feelings toward him?"

I squinted my eyes at her. "Is that your intention, Dianne?"

"Ai!!" she suddenly raise from her chair and raises her hand. Thank goodness that there a lot of boisterous people here. Then the seriousness back in her eyes and the atmosphere when she came back to her chair. She drinks the water half of the bottle. and I got curious eyes on her. What's with her?

"I told you I'm not a dumbass. Don't dare to underestimate me. I knew that no one can resist Nich's charm." she winked at me. "Now, now you should hurry finishing your food." How short can this mood last?

While I'm eating she stares to me, opened her mouth but refuse to speak.

"What, spill it?" I said eating a spoonful of rice and a slice of beef steak.

"You're birthday and Nich's birthday are this Saturday, right?" she asked. I nodded, I'm confused why she knew it but maybe someone told her or she again mess with my phone.

"So, what are you planning to do? And also I have a question why you two seemed avoiding each other in school?" she asked.

"Actually, not just in school. That's because he wants it. He wants me not to be near him. But I don't know why." I made the last sentence lie. Of course, I know the reason, that's the stupid reason.

"Then why did you agree?"

"Well, because he is so insensitive. So you better not fall to him. But if that what you wants letting Nich play with your feelings without him noticing go for it." The last sentence was only in my mind. If I said that out loud I will be looking bitter. But I was sure enough to make Nich is evil and warn Dianne.
