"And so there I was, barbecue on my-"
"Klaus."
Klaus and Willow were in the kitchen, Klaus sprawled out across the table while Willow was leaning against the counter. They both turned to face Diego, who was glaring from the doorway.
"If it isn't my-"
"I want to talk to her alone." Diego demanded and cocked his head towards the exit. "Out."
"What if I say-"
"Now."
Klaus stood up reluctantly, groaning dramatically as he shook his head and rolled his jungle eyes.
"You always ruin everything." He whined, jabbing his finger at Diego, who raised a single knife at his brother.
"Now or I cut off your finger."
"Fine." Klaus scoffed as if he didn't believe Diego for a moment. "Willow Jeans I'll be in the den if you need me."
"Stay away from the bar." Diego warned.
"You're not the boss of me."
Willow was alone, face to face with an older version of the man who once told her that she wasn't good enough for Klaus. At the time, he was right. But now everything was different and she had no idea how to explain herself.
"I want you to show me your powers."
"What?"
"I said." Diego clarified, not louder but slower and softer as he leaned in. "I want to see your powers."
Willow raised her hand and summoned a wooden spoon to her palm that whizzed past Diego's head. It slapped against her palm with a deafening justice that could only confirm whatever Diego was planning.
"So you weren't lying about that." Diego bit his lower lip and raised his head a few degrees.
"Why would I lie?" Willow questioned him back.
"Why the spoon?"
"The spoon is wood." She shrugged. "It's the least refined thing that I could find."
"But...you're like an earth person." The man squinted. "Like rocks and shit."
"Like regular rocks, yeah, but only like, big ones." Willow stated. "Rocks are hard because they have less of a signature. They're more solid so the frequencies don't reverberate as well, unless it's a big ass rock."
"And trees are..."
"Cool and porous and very much alive." She gave a single shrug and moved on. "I get why you don't like me."
"I think if you did," Diego took a step closer, trying to intimidate her. "You wouldn't be here right now."
"I will do my very best to stay sober-"
"You have to stay sober." He furrowed his eyebrows. "If not for you, for Klaus. For the rest of us."
"I'll try."
The silence between them was thick like granite with a similar coolness. He was looking around and shuffling his feet, trying to conjure something to say. But sometimes there just weren't the words to describe the feeling, and you just had to suffer.
"You really broke him, you know."
"I know."
He really broke me. She wanted to say it but didn't feel it was her place.
"You can't leave him like that's again." He warned with a raised eyebrow.
