"The stronger the emotion you experience, the stronger your powers are. When you can overcome what you feel, you're completely in control."
it was hard to think about suppressing emotion
i looked up at my mom. her face was creased with worry, and her hand out for support. i was a smart kid. i could've skipped a few grades if it weren't for my procrastination and little knowledge of emotion.
"Okay. I'll try," I said.
she nodded. with uncertainty, I raised my hand up to my bed. i suppressed as much as possible, and touched the bed frame. how it felt to have the ability to touch something was unexplainable. beautiful. extraordinary.
i gasped and laughed, surprised. she put a hand on my shoulder. "You've come so far, Daniel. I'm so proud of you."
i quickly turned to face her, and hugged her tightly. as if I'd never let her go. of course, I knew I eventually would.
i pulled away. "About..what you said earlier. Suppressing feelings, or something like that. What if... what if I can't?" I croaked.
she swallowed. making slow, direct eye contact, she pursed her lips. "Then we have failed our mission, Daniel."
i knew, deep down what was coming next.
"And then?" I questioned.
her eyebrows narrowed. she straightened her shirt. deliberately, she moved to the door. without looking back at me.
"We're in big trouble."
