" There is magic in your smile
And in the things you say.there is magic in the way
You let me be myself with you.
There is magic that you teach me
To be good and brave and true. "
- Magic ( Grace V. Tidrow)
The sun was slowly rising above the horizon, covering the tiny town of Stars Hollow in various shades of pinks and yellows.
As Olivia sat by the big windows of Luke's she couldn't help but imagine a time when a broody teenage Jess woke up to this very same view.
It all seemed to magical to her that it was hard to envision someone not being happy here. Then again, even the most beautiful sunset doesn't mend a broken heart. Nor does it heal any scars.
" Hey, why are you up ? " Jess' groggy voice sounded through the room as he stepped out from behind the curtain that separated the diner from the stairs leading to the upstairs apartment.
Luke had long ago moved into the Gilmore residence and so the apartment lay abandoned for the few times a year Jess or April would visit him and needed a place to stay.
Olivia's eyes drifted towards the doorway to be met by a tired looking Jess. Hair standing up in all kinds of ways. She couldn't help but let out a giggle at the sight. It was a complete different side of Jess. Less grouchy more - soft. Almost cute.
Olivia thought she liked this side of Jess. Very much so.
" Couldn't sleep. "
" Told you you could have the bed. I knew the pull-out couch was gonna suck. You didn't - "
Jess started to argue, only to be shut off by Olivia soon after.
" Nah It's not that. It was your bed so really you should have it. It's just - being here is kinda strange. "
" You think it's strange for you ? Try being me. Half this town still hates me for things I did when I was 17 and had a pompadour hairstyle. "
A chuckle left Olivia's mouth at that. The weary looks thrown Jess' way from various inhabitants of the town, had not gone past her. They all seemed to observe him with an underlying sense of dread. As if some stupid teenage pranks pulled years ago still stirred up an anger in the townsfolk. Then again, this entire town seemed to be made of fairy lights and cotton candy. So maybe that was the worst thing to ever happen here.
Olivia knew Jess could see the looks of disdain. She wondered if he could see the other looks. The one that Luke held in his eyes when he looked at his nephew. The one coming from his mother. From his sister and to a certain degree from Rory.
