"At least he had good taste" Zak says as he takes the ring.
"Zak" I say with a threatening glare.
"Why did you ever go out with him?" Zak asks.
"He was there, and he's a nice guy. I never had any real feelings for him" I say thinking about the past.
"So you dumped him?"
"No" I pause, "he dumped me the day of your wedding"
"Oh" he says taken off guard. This really shut him up.
I did love Travis but only as a friend. He was I friend that I wanted and needed to badly in my life. He was there with me when Olivia was born and he helped me practically raise her so far. It was so hard to see him go through such a tough time in his life when I'm the one who could've caused it.
Why couldn't I just love Travis? He was so kind and caring and not as complicated as Zak was.
"I should call Denise" an idea suddenly pops into my head.
"Who's Denise" says Zak.
"She's Travis's mom. She used to live next door to me and my dad. I haven't talked to her in a while though. Maybe she'll know what's up with him."
I run to my room and start looking for my phone but can't seem to find it.
"Zak! Have you seen my phone? I can't find it" I scream out to the living room.
"No baby, I haven't seen your phone" Zak says as he walks into my room.
"What the hell? I just had it a while ago" I say throwing my pillows off my bed and making a mess.
"Can I borrow your phone really quickly?" I ask Zak.
"How bad do you want it?" He says with a seductive glare on his face. He pulls me into his arms and crashed his lips on mine.
"Zak" I try to say while his lips are on mine.
I start feeling his pants in search of his phone while distracting him with my lips.
"Touchy now, are we?"
I find his phone and gently push him down on the bed leaving him hot and bothered.
"Later" I smile and wink at him.
"I have to go splash some cold water on my face" Zak says as he stands and makes his way to the bathroom.
As I begin to dial Denise's phone number into Zak's phone it goes off. It's an unknown number. It's probably just spam number or something. I wait for the ringing to stop when it goes off again. The same unknown number.
I quickly decide just to answer it, it could be an emergency.
"Hello" I say into the phone.
"Hi this is Emily, I'm calling for Zak" a strange female voice fills up my ear.
"Who the fuck is this?" I say as my breathing begins to speed up. I've never heard of an Emily.
Then the line goes silent.
Oh hell no.
This could only mean one thing. I mean, I'm not stupid and I am dealing with Zak. I sit on the edge of my bed astounded. No he couldn't be. Not to me. Not to us.
"Alaya do you have a towel I could use" Zak says as he walks in.
I try to calm myself because I wanted to give him a chance to explain. I didn't want to release any irrational anger at him before knowing the whole story.
"Zak I'm gonna ask you something very nicely. I want you to be as honest as possible because I am giving you the benefit of the doubt right now." I say very calmly and slowly so he understands every word.
"Okay" he says with a very confused expression on his face as he comes over and sits next to me on the bed "What's wrong?"
"Who's Emily?"
His confused face drops very quickly to a panicked one.
"What?" He says
"Damn it Zak" I stand up and instantly start to cry.
"It was such a simple answer" I make out in sobs.
"She's my ex" he says quietly.
Ally opens the door with Olivia in her arms.
"Hey you left me wi- oh" she takes a look at me. "Oh-okay livey, lets go back to the living room while the grownups talk"
"Why are you asking me this?" He says. I'm almost surprised at how oblivious he seems right now.
"Um" I wipe my tears with the back of my hand and throw his phone at him.
"She called asking for you""Why'd you answer?"
"What the hell does it matter now Zak? Why is she calling you? What's going on?"
"Are you serious right now?" He stands up and faces me.
"That's what this is isn't it?" He asks.
I can barely manage to say any words with the burning sensation at the back of my throat. Come on Alaya say something for Christ sakes.
"You think I'm cheating on you, " he says "don't you?"
"What else could it be Zak?"
"Is this what you think? That I'd ever cheat on you Alaya. Are you serious?"
I can tell I've struck something inside of him. He seems angry and hurt at the same time.
Then out of now where he grabs a lamp from the night stand and smashes it against the wall. Glass shards explode all over the floor and bed. He starts viciously putting his hands through his hair.
"Fuck!" He yells out.
"After everything. Everything we've been through, you still don't trust me if you think for one second that I would even think about anyone but you. Shit, Alaya, you're the fucking mother of my CHILD!"
"What else am I supposed to think when some girl is calling your phone?" I cry out.
"Nothing! You're supposed to trust me and not just assume I'm screwing other people."
Zak starts taking his shoes from the closet and putting them on.
" Zak what are you doing?" I ask frantically.
"I haven't done anything in our relationship for you to not trust me and you still question my loyalty, how do I deal with that?"
"Zak" I plead.
"You know, I haven't even talked to Emily since high school when she screwed me over and broke my heart."
"Where are you going?" I try to grab his arm but he yanks it back.
"I need time to cool off"
And with that he walks out of the door and disappears leaving a large slam at the door.
