Chapter Thirty-Three

Help Is on the Way

Mick rode Black Bart up the driveway to the Thanturnam Estate. When he arrived in the yard, he led the horse to the livery area. He dismounted and tied the horse to the rail. It was quiet, and he didn't see anyone. He walked into the livery, trying to adjust his eyes to the darkness.

"Rupert? Reggie?"

Out of nowhere, a large hand clenched his jacket and lifted him off his feet, slamming him into a post.

"What the hell are doing riding my brother's horse?" asked Rupert.

"Let him down, Rupert," said Reggie

"Roman sent me to get help," said Mick.

"Where's Roman?" asked Reggie. "And Ridge? Are they all right?"

"Ridge is fine. He went to York with the Johnson's. Roman, Talia, and my Myrna are headed to the Huntley's. They kidnapped Lord and Lady Huntley on the road home from the Huntveldt's."

"Gerald Huntley?" asked Roman's father.

"Yes. He and Lady Geneva were married last month in York. Timothy Huntley and Squire Brown, along with two henchmen, kidnapped them this morning."

"Looks like you put up quite a fight protecting them," said Reggie, looking at his bruised face.

"I used to work at the Huntley's, and Squire Brown did not feel I had a proper goodbye when I left," explained Mick.

"See. This could be a trick to get us over to the Huntley's," said Rupert.

"I don't work for them anymore. I work for the Henderson Estate."

"Could be a trick," said Rupert.

Mick looked at all the Thanturnams. Their likeness overwhelmed him.

"Which one is Rupert?" asked Mick.

The men pointed to the largest one.

"Roman sent me here to convince you to come and be ready to fight. Also, he said to tell Rupert that his serving girl has all of her teeth."

The men burst into laughter and knew that remark could only come from Roman.

"Well, what are we standing around here?" asked Reggie. "Roman needs our help. Who's with me?"

Several hands went in the air.

"I am not sending all of you," said Gordon. "Reggie, pick the best fighters, and let's saddle up those horses."

"Are you going with?" asked Rupert.

"Yes, I am, and don't tell your mother. I will explain it to her when I return."

The men scattered to different parts of the livery to saddle their horses. Mick went back to Bart and led him to the water trough while he waited. The Thanturnam men were even more impressive on horseback.

Mick quickly explained the layout of the grounds and how he would lead them into an area to secure their horses. Then, on foot, they could make their way to the prison tower.

"Omar wants revenge on Lord and Lady Huntley," explained Mick. "Roman and Talia were going to locate them and wait for help to arrive. Roman's stitches broke open, and my gal Myrna had to stitch them shut. I don't think he is up to taking them all on by himself."

"Let's go, men," said Rupert. "Roman needs us."

Mick took the lead, and the Thanturnam men and five riders followed.
