Claire and Sherry knelt by the very injured Leon. Sherry shook him.
"Leon, wake up!" No response. Claire checked for a pulse.
"It's ok, Sherry, he's only unconscious..." Claire stayed crouching at Leon's side, but Sherry stood up and walked forward.
"Woah..."
"What is it, Sherry?" Claire asked quickly. She also stood up, but not too far from Leon. She gasped in awe at the beautiful city in front of them. There were buildings that were very different from the ones at Raccoon City. The bright sun shone down on the three survivors. They noticed they were in a small park, but they were alone. Claire looked up at the buildings again. On one was an ad. But it wasn't a poster ad, like in Raccoon City... it was a moving one on a giant TV screen. The ad said, 'Get yours today, at Cyberlife!' The ad had a picture of three people standing behind the words, a small blue ring on the side of each of their foreheads.
Claire turned her attention back to Leon, still unconscious. She shook him, with no affect. She sat there with him, for a while, glancing back at Sherry every now and then. After a while, she kept her focus on Leon, not looking back at Sherry.
"Sherry, I'm gonna look around, stay with Leon." Claire twirled around to face Sherry.
"Sherry?" She stressfully observed the small park, searching for the girl or even just a trace of where she was. How would Claire do this? Go find Sherry, or stay with Leon? She didn't know what to do. 'Maybe I'll do both,' she thought, 'as in, carry Leon while searching for Sherry.' Claire didn't think that would work. She thought that Leon was too heavy to carry. As she was deciding, Leon sat upright. Claire looked over to him as he winced in pain, remembering his injuries. She raced to his side, kneeling down and holding a hand on his shoulder.
"You ok?" Leon turned his head to her and nodded.
"Have a nice nap?" He looked at her, grinning.
"Yea- ow!" His smile was replaced by a pained look as he grabbed his chest.
"It hurts to speak," Leon mumbled, slowly so he wouldn't hurt himself.Claire gripped his arm and helped him up, before explaining the situation.
"While you were out cold, Sherry disappeared. Then you woke up. But now we need to find Sherry. She could be anywhere in this big, new city, and she could be in trouble!" Leon stared at her in shock.
We have to find her, he mouthed. Claire nodded. As they walked, Leon gripped one hand on his chest and the other across his back. He was limping behind Claire, so she slowed down and supported Leon by placing his arm around the back of her neck. They continued slowly through the city, and they finally saw a human. A male. He walked up to them, beginning to greet them.
"Hello. I am Connor. My purpose is to serve as a detective." Leon and Claire looked at him in surprise- why was he talking to them? They had ripped up clothes, and they were very dirty, yet a man who seemed rich because he had very fine clothes was talking to them.
"Um... hello?" That's when Leon noticed something on the side of Connor's forehead. He tapped Claire's shoulder and pointed at the small, blue circle on the side of Connor's head. It looked like one of the circles from the ad. Of course Leon didn't know what it was, since he was unconscious."What is that?" Claire asked.
"This is my LED light. It shows my thought process and feelings. It also helps me be a great detective," Connor replied. "Are... are you human?" Claire asked.
"No, I am an Android." Claire felt shock, but she tried her best to hide it. Androids were only told in stories, they weren't real, they were too high tech. Too high tech for their current year, 1998, at least.
"Well... you said you were a detective... right?" The Android nodded.
"Well, can you help us with something? We've lost a child, her name is Sherry Birkin. Could you please search for her?" Connor thought for a moment. Leon and Claire could tell he was thinking because the ring on the side of his head changed colour to yellow. It quickly turned back to blue, and the Android answered the question.
"Yes. I will let the police station know and we will search." Connor paused for a moment. The circle changed yellow yet again.
"I have contacted the police." Claire had an impressed expression on her face. Connor walked away down the path, and Leon and Claire continued their journey around the high tech city. They walked past many humans on the way down the path. They could tell they were humans because they weren't like Connor. They made fun of their clothes and their dirtiness. The other people walking on the path were Androids. Claire could tell because they continued on the path, all looking the same, not even caring about them. As they continued walking around the massive city, they observed the beautiful things about it. After a long walk, Claire could see Leon was getting tired, so they both sat on an out of this world bench.
"Leon, what is going on?" Claire asked him. This was weirder than the undead. He turned his head to her, and made a gesture that meant, 'how would I know?'. So they started discussing things that they had seen. Well, Claire participated. Leon sat there, listening because of his painful chest and back. He was trying very hard not to cry.
"So... the flesh eaters must not have reached this place yet, huh?" Claire said, leaning back on the bench. Leon did the same, and mouthed, Yeah, I guess so. They continued chatting for a bit. They then continued on their journey through this massive place. Claire stopped walking as she accidentally collided with another woman. She didn't have a ring on the side of her head, so she was human."Excuse me, can you help us?" Claire asked, scratching her head before Leon pulled her to her feet.
"Sure," she replied.
"So... first off, I know this'll sound crazy, but... what year is this?" The woman burst out laughing.
"Sorry," she said as she wiped a tear of joy from her eye.
"It's 2038, of course!" Claire and Leon exchanged glances.
"And... what's your name?" The woman had short, blonde, messy hair, and piercing blue eyes.
"I am Kara."
"Nice to meet you, Kara. I'm Claire, and this is my buddy Leon." Claire extended her hand for Kara to shake. Kara took her hand. But here arm turned silver and Claire saw memories. Memories that weren't her own... someone else's memories. Kara's memories. Claire quickly let go, afraid of what happened. Leon watched their hands in awe, thinking his eyes were playing tricks on him."Sorry, I just... wasn't expecting that," Claire said. Kara dismissed the thought with a wave of her hand.
"It's fine." Kara must have been an Android then. She observed Leon, maybe scanning him, or analysing him. She turned to face Claire.
"I think your friend needs some help. After a scan, I have located many broken bones. He has 13 broken ribs, 2 fractured ribs, a torn muscle in his calf and a damaged spine." Claire looked over at Leon, who grinned nervously back at her. How could he look so happy, yet be in such pain?
"I can understand why your friend hasn't been talking. Two of his broken ribs are rubbing against a certain muscle, and when a person speaks, that muscle moves inwards. His rib pokes the muscle and risks puncturing it." Claire didn't really need that much of a description.
"Ah, yes. Where do we get help?" Claire asked.
"Follow me," Kara said. When she turned, she revealed a small girl.
"Who's this?" Claire asked, crouching down to the little girl."This is Alice," Kara replied, holding a hand on the little girl's shoulder.
"Hello, Alice!" Claire said enthusiastically. Alice hid behind Kara's legs, probably shy.
"Ok, come with me," Kara said, and the four of them started towards the Detroit Hospital.
