Don't ask me why, but of all the people to run into at the store, fate decided to throw Ross Lynch my way. And I was NOT in the mood to talk. At all.

"Sorry, Laura. I didn't mean to run into you. Are you okay?" He asked, running a hand through his hair. "Ross, you hit me with a cart, you didn't run me over. I'm fine." I said, digging through my purse to find my phone so I could say I missed an important call and get out of this situation. 

"No, I was wondering if you were okay in general. You seem a bit upset." Ross stammered, clearing unsure of what to say to me. Good. He shouldn't know what to say to me. He doesn't know me anymore. "I'm fine Ross, can you just drop it?" I asked, finally grabbing my phone. 

"And let me guess, you're going to pretend that you missed an important call just to get away from me now, right?" Ross smirked, leaning forward against his cart. Well, fuck. Okay, I take my previous comment back, clearly he did know me a little. But, not a lot. 

"No, I was just going to see if I had gotten any messages." I lied, putting it back in my purse. "You know, it doesn't need to be awkward between us anymore. Look, I know our history is complicated, but that doesn't mean we can't just smile and wave when we see each other. I don't see the problem, really. We've both moved on. Why can't we stop holding each other hostage and just let one another go?" Ross offered, and I felt air leave my lungs. I had to prevent myself from choking in response to his words.

I wasn't expecting that. 

"Do you realize that I just moved out of the house we were supposed to be starting a new life in? And I moved out only two months ago." I stated, with a bit of anger in my tone. "And now you think I can just see you and wave all because I'm dating someone new? Ross, if you seriously think that's possible, well, then, you're even dumber than I thought." I practically spat, feeling furious at his suggestion. 

I awaited his comeback, but he just stood there, looking a bit taken aback. 

"What? No quick comeback?" I glared at him. "We broke up almost six months ago now. You waited four months to move? Why?" He asked, curiosity written all over his face. "Why do you think?" I said furiously, allowing him to figure out what he already knew. 

"You were waiting for me. Waiting for me to come back." He started. I felt hot tears roll down my cheeks. "And I never did." He whispered, as if he was speaking to no one. "I need to go." I said, grabbing my things from the cart and heading to the checkouts. 

He didn't follow me.

"Thanks for asking me to lunch, Laura." Rose smiled nicely at me. I returned her smile and started to eat my salad. "So, what's up? What's happening in your life right now?" Rose asked, and I felt myself become a bit giddy for the first time in months. "Ben is taking me to a concert tonight." I said, not trying to contain the smile on my face. 

"That's so cute! Concert dates are my favourite. Are you guys getting pretty serious now?" Rose asked, and I shrugged. "We've only been seeing each other for a month. I don't even think he's officially my boyfriend yet." I said, and Rose nodded. "Is that what you want?" She asked, and I nodded slowly. "I think I'm finally ready for it." I smiled. "Laura! That's amazing! I'm so happy for you." She said, and I smiled gratefully at her.

"How about you? Are you and Ross like, getting back together?" I asked hesitantly. Rose scrunched up her face and squinted in the sunlight. "Nah. That's not where I'm at. We're just buds. I don't think either of us wanted to reconnect at that level this time around." Rose stated and I felt uncertainty rise in me. What did she mean by this time around?

"What do you mean?" I asked, and she shrugged. "We had a brief fling back about 6 months ago, I think? It was about a week after you guys called it quits officially. I saw him in a club in Hollywood and we chatted. He was pretty wasted and told me everything, about calling off the wedding, and moving out. He spilled it all. After that night we hooked up a few times but then I went on a promo tour and called it off. I show up here a few weeks ago and who's one of the first people I run into? Ross, of course." Rose groaned, taking a sip of her drink. 

"I can't believe he was out partying only a week after we ended things." I sighed. Rose let out a sarcastic laugh. "Partying? Laura, no. You've got that one wrong. He was drinking because he was trying to forget everything. I've never seen anyone more destroyed than Ross was that night. Never." She explained, and I felt a bit of grief flow through me. 

"But he was the one that ended things. He maintained we weren't ready to get married." I explained and Rose shrugged. "Ross is hard to understand. I don't know how you managed to put up with it for so long. He drove me crazy when we were dating." Rose laughed and I found myself laughing a bit too. 

"Do you think that you'll ever get back together with him?" Rose asked me, and I widened my eyes. "No. I think that ship has finally sailed, and I wasn't on it. I was for a bit, but he jumped off, and I tried to stick around, but eventually, I jumped too." I sighed, feeling too many emotions. "I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have asked that." Rose said and I shook my head. "It's okay, I don't mind. Really. I need to move on completely. Eventually I'll be in a place where if someone asks me that, I can laugh and just shake my head. I'm not there yet, but I'm getting there." I admitted.

Healing wasn't easy, but I was willing to believe that it would be worth it.

I still have one more exam left on april 24 but for now im here and im gonna try my best to update again before then.

my finals so far have been kinda sucky. some of the exams have gone my way and some most certainly have not lol but its ok!!! sometimes we need to fail in order to fly. university has taught me that in more ways than one lol

hope you enjoyed this update- what do you think ross is gonna take away from that encounter with laura? I GUESS you'll just have to wait and see ;) comment ur thoughts tho!
